I chose to read the book Mindset by Carol S. Dweck. I picked this particular book because of the second sentence on the back cover, “Dweck explains why it’s not just our abilities and talent that bring us success- but whether we approach our goals with a fixed or growth mindset”. This quote, while selecting which book to read, really stood out to me. One of my favorite books of all time is Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, and this book seemed to be a great way to expand my knowledge of the effort that pushes our abilities to their full potential. I’ve always been a person with a growth mindset, I can thank my dad for that, and this book just seemed to be a great fit for the type of reading that I do for fun outside of school ,so I felt it would be the best fit for me.
Joe Smith David Kleiman 07 February 2012 Extra Credit Assignment #2 On the 5th of February, I attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in Cumming, GA. When I arrived, I noticed a large collection of pamphlets against the wall. Since I was early, I began to read some of them. Then the meeting began. The first ritual of the meeting involved volunteers reading the Twelve Traditions and Twelve Steps aloud to everyone.
It allows speaking languages fluently and to communicate spontaneously. Therefore, the book can be faithful friend and the nearest into us which can guide us to how to behave in our practical life. Books have done far more for me, personally, than anything else in my life except good parenting skills displayed by my parents. Reading increases my vocabulary, aids in refreshing myself, and allows me the opportunity to see the world through someone else’s eyes. As they may have done for others, books do increase my vocabulary.
Philosophy. An Essay. Two more weeks at university and another semester is about to end. Stress levels are running rampart and the trending college topics by mouth, Twitter, Facebook and social media platforms everywhere is “I got to write a paper.” I’m singing the same tune with a twist, “what do I write about?” With 14 weeks of instruction under my belt, my philosophy teachings about the Western Mind should have provided enough knowledge to write a decent four to five page essay. An essay that should provide proof (for a grade) that I have read, digested and somewhat understood what was eloquently printed between the pages of a 500 plus page text book.
Leadership is such an ongoing and ever changing topic that it is very important to study and take in as much knowledge as you can from courses or other tools such as books. I feel this book was a wonderful tool to accompany leadership courses. I will keep much of the knowledge with me and will be able to apply its tools and ideas to much of my life after college. It might sound cliché for a book report, but I would recommend this book to everyone who seeks the tools and ideas of one of the greatest leaders of our time. Even to those who may never be a leader, the concepts in this book, I find apply to everyday life and how you deal with people and everyday
After ten years of being unpublished someone suggested I try romance” (Jean, sec. 2). "I wrote series romance for the next five years. It was a rewarding experience, but after 12 romance novels I ran out of sexual positions and decided to move into the mystery genre” (White, sec. 1).
At primary school I was able to read for myself some of the books that were meant for grade ones up to grade four leaners books and also had little assistant from my teachers and mother with all the words I did not know at the time. From then I had favorite books that I could read fluently and understand. These included Tom and Jerry, Cat in the hat, the three little pigs and much, much more that I used to read on a daily basis for my family and friends. The love of reading made me a very imaginative kid and a curious one at that, every week I wanted a different career when I grow up, which was very interesting and confusing also for my mother. Throughout primary School and high school my love of reading and writing grew and so, did the number of books and also my ability to pronounce and understand English.
For nearly 50 years Schulz's comic strip, the "Peanuts" collection, has been the most well-known and loved in the world, with as many as 355 million daily readers in 75 countries. After graduation, Schulz’s shyness and insecurity rendered art school out of the question, so instead he took a correspondence course from Art Instruction Inc. In 1942 Schulz was drafted and, heartsick and terrified, left for boot camp only days after his mother had died. But he actually thrived in the Army and came back newly confident. After serving in World War II, Schulz worked as an art instructor and created his first comic strip Li'l Folks, which was published in a local

Mr. Alessandri had us read Silence of the Lambs, Dune, and numerous short stories. I had always just read all the standard books for high school, but this was a whole new twist to reading for me. For once I truly enjoyed what I was reading. Science Fiction & Horror was no easy class, but I found myself paying full attention at all times out of sheer enjoyment of what I was hearing from my teacher. Mr. Alessandri had been teaching the class for almost thirty years so he knew the material like the back of his hand.
