Often, when you hear about a hero, it is someone who had done outstanding feat or conquest. I have come to recognize a true hero who consistently reached the inner child. The amazing man who touched the hearts of people old and young worldwide was Charles Schulz. Born on November 26, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Charles Schulz developed an interest in comics early on. As a teenager, he learned the art of cartooning from a correspondence course. On February 12, 2000, Schulz died of cancer, leaving an amazing legacy. For nearly 50 years Schulz's comic strip, the "Peanuts" collection, has been the most well-known and loved in the world, with as many as 355 million daily readers in 75 countries. After graduation, Schulz’s shyness and insecurity rendered art school out of the question, so instead he took a correspondence course from Art Instruction Inc. In 1942 Schulz was drafted and, heartsick and terrified, left for boot camp only days after his mother had died. But he actually thrived in the Army and came back newly confident. After serving in World War II, Schulz worked as an art instructor and created his first comic strip Li'l Folks, which was published in a local
