My Belief in Teaching Owen Brown Vocational Training Development Institution My Belief in Teaching Merriam Webster dictionary (n.d) states that, “Belief is something believed; an opinion or conviction, while teaching can be defined as the occupation or work of a teacher or an idea of principles taught by an authority”. It is then very important that persons entering the profession, wishing to impart knowledge to others, with the intent that some form of desire, behavior, change, morals or learning can take place, must have opinions or convictions to guide or direct them in this important task of educating others. In this regard I will examine four critical beliefs I have about teaching. I will be seeking to show how these beliefs can produce quality and well rounded student, while enhancing the teaching profession. My four beliefs are teachers must know and love what they teach since student know when you do, and will catch it. The second belief is I must not stop learning and strive to find strategies to assist in learning. Additionally I believe learning should be fun and that everyone can learn. Finally I believe learning has a lot to do with the student home and community environment. Let us now evaluate these four salient beliefs in detail. A teacher who is enthused and comprehend the subject or discipline he or she teaches will gain admiration and respect from their students. Additionally knowledge will be disseminated more easily, since student will be more open and ready to learn. The student will learn because they will be at ease and more comfortable since such teacher will be more prepared and will be more confident in passing on the desired material, value or objectives he or she want to be learnt.
