Every day, professional individuals face challenges and situations that require them to think critically. Individuals under stress can make mistakes. For example, stress can compromise a team project. Members under stress may not have the clarity to analyze and evaluate their thinking because they cannot focus. The result of the stress could be poor and insufficient work. The above examples show the importance of critical thinking to the decision-making process. Decisions made without using critical thinking are unfair, illogical, and sometimes irrational. They do not reflect any of the characteristics associated with critical thinking. In fact, they seem self-serving, biased, and are generally not the best thought out solutions. Decisions made using critical thinking offer many benefits because they are usually the best thought out solutions. The analysis and evaluation that entails critical thinking ensures that the decision reflects accuracy, clarity, logic, and fair-mindedness. Using critical thinking can reflect an individual and an organization’s ethics. For instance, if an organization has to lay off employees and it reached that decision using critical thinking, the organization would not have to worry about employees raising accusations of bias or unfairness. However, when my team’s productivity was low, I helped the supervisor use critical thinking to improve productivity. I proposed that she observe the workers in each position and gather information about their performances for one week. Based on that information, she could identify who worked best in certain positions and why they worked poorly in others. The team also provided input on their work preferences and what they thought was affecting their performance. Critical thinking helped her to identify the problem and recognize the goals and objectives. It also allowed her to evaluate the impact of the problems and come up with alternative solutions to increase productivity. The supervisor decided to allow team members to work where they preferred. After implementing the decision, evaluation of the decision provided data that showed the supervisor made a good decision and some unforeseen factors that affect
