Studies have shown that the use of 360 degree feedback improves employee performance as the individual being evaluated can see different perspectives of their performance [Walker & Smither, 1999]. While 360 degree feedback is used frequently within a growing number of firms, [Torrington, 2012] it is however very time consuming and a complex process which can lead to high costs. This essay evaluates 360 degree performance appraisal to determine whether or not it is a successful measure to attain employee feedback. Generally, 360 degree feedback uses a survey approach and a questionnaire which matches the needs of the firm. It is based on behavioural competencies, whereby evaluators are asked to score, on a given scale, the extent to which the individual displays these behaviours.
That leads to misunderstanding as well as lack of appreciation of each other, and then tasks may not be completed as expected. Secondly, there is a situation that a person contributes less while working in a team rather than working individually, which is defined as “social loafing” (Kavita Singh, 2010:251). Consequently, work will be delayed by this social loafer and other members may feel unfair because they have to attempt more to meet deadlines. It will discuss how both critical thinking and decision making relates to each other. Being able to know how to use critical thinking is important. Critical thinking allows you to open up your mind and think clearly and rationally.
Meanwhile, if they deal with an upset customer, they have to be respectable and happy to them. A good employee also doesn’t complain. If they are asked to do a job that they don’t like, they do it. No matter what is going on, an employee always has to have a positive attitude. The second important trait a good employee has is, being proactive.
When one knows their competencies they can step up and utilize their strengths and leverage others when needed. With my strength for leading and taking initiative, I can take command of a situation while working well with others to critically think through ideas and discuss the quality of the arguments and evaluate potential solutions. My ability to cope with pressure can help me to maintain a calm atmosphere for the group. I possess the ability to network well and that will allow me to seek out others to obtain their point of view. Being innovative will also help with assessing arguments through critical thinking.
According to Miles “Positive relationship communication focuses on supervisors seeking suggestions from subordinates, being interested in them as people, relating with them in a casual manner, and allowing them to contribute input on important decisions.” (Miles, Patrick & King, 1996, p. ) In order to apply this philosophy in real life, I determined how employees in my organization perceive supervisor communication. In addition, I examined employee performance, trust and morale during times when there is a negative perception of communication with supervisors. Negative employee perceptions of supervisor communication are important in determining employee trust and morale as well. I follow instructions very well in my opinion I think instructions are there to help you along that is why people write them to help you out. Researching is a good thing to help knowing about what you are learning. Adapting to change is needed when things go a different way than expected. When it comes to applying your expertise is being able to either voice or write down your opinions' on the subject at hand. All of these things help me with my work culture because I can perform in high demanding jobs.
Characteristics that a role model possesses includes high moral values, confidence, who is hardworking, respectful, has an optimistic outlook on life and can find creative solutions to their problems in the workplace. To ensure that I acted as a role model for the employees I would supervise, I would make sure that I possess all the previously said qualities and use them to my advantage. I would always show a positive attitude, be enthusiastic and involved within the workplace, and always accept responsibility of my actions if any mistakes happen on my behalf. I would also understand myself; referring to my learning style, characteristics, behaviours, and learning preferences. I would also learn to understand others and to value diversity in the workplace.
