Money and Success
America’s concept of money and success has been deeply rooted into almost all of us. Apparently the key to happiness is to make a plentiful amount of money and become successful in life, that’s what we all want. We’re led to believe that the way to find happiness through money and success is to work as hard as you can and eventually all of your hard work will get you to the top. Yet somehow, our dreams of one day becoming rich and successful have gotten more distant and harder to achieve. I have been an honest and hard working auto mechanic for five years now and I just recently picked up a second job to help pay bills. Not but a week later, I show up to work one day, and see that the owner has hired a new tech. It’s four o’clock, my other co-worker informs me on the situation. The owner knows I can’t collect unemployment because I have another job, so he hires an older tech that is as equally skilled as I am, yet he is working for two dollars less an hour. So as soon as five o’ clock hits, they pull me into the office, give me my last paycheck, I pack up my tools and leave. It’s was clear that my hard work wasn’t valued for what it was. The self acclaimed Christian man threw out his morals when it came to business. It’s greed and selfishness that has led our nation to be run by Americans that have lost fundamental morals and standards concerning the well-being of our society. Equal opportunity is what America believes in. If you live in America, you are just as able as anyone else to work hard for yourself and make decent wages. It seems simple enough to anyone, especially to someone who lives in a different country that doesn’t have the luxury of equal opportunity. Once we enter the workforce, we are generally working for ourselves and our families’
