Aether is communication through movement, trying to send a message and is difficult to define. In the beginning of the piece the dancers use alot of typing hand and finger movement which becomes their motif, creating lots of movement and steps with the motif. They don’t dance in unison in this piece but dance through special relationships and the occasional partner work. Movements were very robotic and sharp flick dynamic in this dance, but some aspects were flowy showing contrast between movements which fit in with the white noise of the music. Towards the end of the dance they hold hands and create different movement that is more human like.
Was there a variety of levels/patterns/formations/movement pathways? What choreographic tools did the choreographer use? Canons, unison, repetition, call & response, spatial patterns, etc. Were transitions used effectively? Describe the movement vocabulary.
The performers were close together in a clump, center stage. They moved as one body, as one soul as one performer. The women were dressed in nude long dress, and men in nude leotard. The formation of the dance started with a triangle shape clump which was visible when they did a level change increase as it went from front to back. Few times they expanded out of the clump using the space of the stage but always returned back together as one, center stage.
Movement is one of the elements used effectively within this performance, as the actors used all areas of the stage creatively to enhance the meaning of the play. Both abstract and realistic movement is used in the scenes. An example of abstract movement is seen when Romeo and Juliet first meet; in this scene they circled each other as they talked., Tthis in a way is abstract movement as it is not necessarily something people do in real life, but Zen Zen Zo used the circling to represent confronting an enemy and falling in love . Another example of movement is seen at the start of the performance, where the actors are getting ready for school. This element was used efficiently .to identify their actions.
The next movement I noticed was two dancers doing a kind of “stomping” on the stage. This conveyed a very tribal message to me. Finally, I noticed in movement in which the performer twirled in place on stage. This gave me a sense of relaxation. The sound score starts out very tribal but then transforms into a slightly more sophisticated musical composition.
Through their play children practise and consolidate their learning, play with ideas, experiment, take risks, solve problems, and make decisions… First-hand experiences allow children to develop an understanding of themselves and the world in which they live. In which the two things that were a big part of jazz dance were isolation and syncopation, Jack was interested, and because of this it plays a big part in jazz dance today. (Jazz Dance, 2011) Throughout the years individuality and improvisation were a required part of jazz dance. When dancers create jazz moves they have no limitations on the dancers or the moves that they performed. Dances move from peppy and bright to what is called being soulful and comes with a flow of rhythms. Teachers teach their students ballet first in order to develop strength and agility to perform leaps, turns, and kicks that are used in jazz.
There were many performances that I enjoyed and they ranged from different types of dancing to the expressions they portrayed. In this paper I will give critiques over a total of six dances. “Beyond Shadow” The first dance of the night was choreographed by Nashwa Cahill and was titled “Beyond Shadow”. The music was Pharonic Odyessey by Paul Dinletit. In this dance there were a total of 12 dancers.
All the killings made by Shelton were to people who were directly showed how flawed the system was. Shelton never outright killed non-combatants. There was purpose behind all of his attacks. In this way, Shelton was able to discriminate between non-combatants and combatants. Non-combatants were never viewed as targets, an each of the killings took place in a planned our and secured environment which allowed for only the combatants to be targeted.
I feel as though our fellow students portrayed the character in an amazing way and interpreted the communication through dance well also. As I said, I feel dancing in the play resembled a form of communication of feeling
