MANDATORY VOLUNTEERING Although mandatory volunteering seems to be a waste of time for many students, in my opinion, mandatory volunteering is still a good idea. In spite of the fact that volunteering is a personal choice, nowadays, it is a requirement to graduate from school .Many people are against it strongly. However, Firstly, students should study not only about knowledge but also about morality or social behavior. Students of today have good taking skills but extremely poor giving skills. Volunteering is an opportunity for them to explore their life and see the world with a different set of eyes. For instance, when the students volunteer, they can see the lives of the poor people who line up at the food bank, the lives of the sick in our extended care units, the lives of drug addicts and criminals, the lives of those paralyzed by violence. Not only would they be giving back to the community but they would also be educated in a way that no school. Volunteering would open their eyes to the real world . It would help them make better choices , even reducing gang violence, school shootings and drug addiction. Therefore, although volunteering is required by the school, it brings many challenges for students to achieve and study. Secondly, mandatory volunteering can change the student’s thoughts and personality. At first, students who dislike volunteering just do that as their duties .However, after spending time serving the community, they recognize that they like this work and they want to do that more and more. For example ,my friend Chi, who used to not like volunteering changed his mind after visiting the orphanage with disabled children. At first, he went there because he just wanted to finish his assignment. However, when he saw many children who are optimistic though they are blind and deaf,
