Managing work priorities and professional development. Author: Renee Scott. The following is my personal reflection essay that includes my opinion of how I would manage my work priorities and professional development. Some of the answers I have provided are taken from my current role as a store manager at Subway, while others are from research that I have conducted online, or from the course information that was supplied. 1.) What makes a good role model and how would I ensure that I acted as a role model for employees I supervise? Some traits that a good role model would possess could include: a commitment to helping others, as a manager I have seen many different types of people come and go through my store. A few of these people require more training then others so they require a longer time slot to get the know-how of how to perform certain tasks, I allow them more time to learn as it is a greater benefit to me that staff know how to perform their tasks correctly. This could also include a commitment to the job itself rather than having the position of manager just for the money, as a manager I find myself staying back and completing additional tasks, not for the benefit of myself but for the stores outcome in the long run. Also a good role model should show a positive attitude towards their role and tasks, portraying this kind of attitude makes for a more friendly and optimistic environment. It also allows for better and easier communication with employees as they will feel less threatened to approach you with issues or queries. I find it easier to remain positive but stay professional while I am doing it so employees don't misinterpret my attitude as apathetic.
