In a decentralized structure, the decision making power is distributed and the departments and divisions have varying degrees of autonomy. More specifically, structure describes how members are accepted, how leadership is chosen, and how decisions are made. An organizational chart illustrates the organizational structure. An organizational structure should be developed for every organization because, firstly, structure gives members a clear guidelines for how to proceed. Good factual written and verbal communication and being able to use a variety of communication skills, will promote good understanding, and ultimately provide high quality care for our Service Users. In my position, it is imperative that I communicate with the Service User, and our Carers, in the correct way, to make sure that the needs of the Service User are understood, and dealt with correctly. When we initially meet with the service user, we discuss their needs and concerns, the level of care required, and the frequency of visits before we formulate a care plan that meets their needs. We have regular meetings with the Service Users and Carers to review plans, and implement any changes needed. We also telephone our Service Users, to ensure that everything is working well, with the service they are receiving.

I believe that leadership should be based on a vision that must be adjusted as needed for the organizational climate and constituents they serve. My vision for human service organizations (HSO’s) is to comprehensively provide quality services for the people that they serve through an attainment of all appropriate funding, adhering to all stakeholders, maintaining a balanced and knowledgeable staff, and making informed decisions based on care and compassion. This is all done with the end game of changing and saving lives in the areas that the organization focuses on. This vision should be adjusted as needed from a 360 degree approach of assessment that combines both top down and bottom up methods in an effort to take all parties into consideration and assess the true climate of the HSO. 2.
