Making a good oral presentation is an art that involves attention to the needs of your audience, careful planning, and attention to delivery. While preparing an oral presentation, get to know what situations you're getting into with your speech. There are many reasons for giving an oral presentation e.g. to inform, educate, entertain, inspire, or convince. Once the purpose of the presentation known determine the structure, topics, and method of delivery that will best achieve the purpose. A good speech or presentation is possible only when the speaker is aware of the context or situation in which he is going to speak. The following aspects are to be considered while planning an oral presentation. Select the Ideas. When an orator has determined the purpose and analyzed his audience along with situation, it becomes very easy for him to select the main ideas he wants to convey. Make random selection of related ideas by brainstorming. Then decide which ideas are more relevant and appropriate to the audience and the objective. Carry out any research that is necessary. It is good to be selective; the first list of ideas may be disorganized. Later on one can select those ideas that are workable. ‘Know your stuff’. Do research to find facts that relate to the subject at-hand. After selecting the ideas the speaker thoroughly researches the topic. He tries to include all the necessary information in his message. It pays to anticipate the questions likely to be asked and to be prepared to give the relevant answers. Take time to prepare a speech. After selecting the ideas and research the orator prepares his speech. He arranges his ideas and often writes it according to the principles of good writing. He selects an introduction, a body and conclusion for his topic. The various sections should be joined seamlessly to ensure smooth delivery of the information.
