With in this assignment I am going to understand the principles of developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults. 1.1 Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults this helps use better understand a person or situation and enables us to resolve differences, build trust and respect and create environment where creative ideas, problem solving, affection and caring can flourish. Effective communication is about more than just exchanging information, it's also about understanding emotions behind information, it enables you to communicate even negative or difficult messages with out creating conflict or destroying trust. Effective communication combines a set of skills including non verbal communication, attentive listening, the ability to mange stress in the moment, the capacity to recognize, understand own emotion and those of the person you are communicating with.
Good communication can prevent misunderstanding and mismatched expectations. There are a number of reasons why people communicate, and they all play an important role. These are as follows: • People communicate in order to give or provide information, for instance to be able to share important information so that people can work and function together in a sufficient way • People communicate to seek information, by asking questions to someone who has more knowledge of the subject. • People communicate to express their emotions like courage or fear, joy or sorrow, satisfaction or disappointment with appropriate gestures and words. • People communicate to pass on the knowledge and to teach.
Positive communication will help colleagues to trust each other and have the confidence to voice their opinions, ask for help, give advice and share information which will provide the people we support with a strong team that they can trust, negative communication will have the opposite effect. 2.2 Describe the factors to consider when promoting effective communication. The factors you should consider to promote effective communication skills are; Think before you speak, especially when talking to children or vulnerable adults, you need to be clear about what you’re saying to avoid any unnecessary confusion which may lead to upset. Tone, this is very important our tone of voice can convey all sorts of emotions, sadness, happiness, anger, excitement etc. So make sure that your tone of voice is fitting to the emotion you wish to convey.
The goals of effective communication include creating a common perception, changing behaviors and acquiring information. (What is Effective Communication? 2010) In order to have any type of communication skills first you must know your basics like eye contact is really important. It makes you feel connected to the person(s) you are talking to. When you have confidence it makes you feel good about yourself and makes you communicate more effectively to the other peers that you are talking to.
Then we need to empathize with the person, understand what they mean, an ask/encourage the person which we are listening with. When we question them we are showing them that we are listening/encouraging them to give their opinions on the subject. Last but not least paraphrase/summarize what our counterpart has said. When we repeat their ideas it helps the other person that we understood/listened. Finally don't interrupt when the person is talking.

And, using positive reinforcing body language to show emotion is a good way to improve credibility. Do not slouching or standing still, because it shows insecurity and lack of credibility.
People who use services; so we know there needs, it’s one thing to look in the service plan but to know what they really need personally, you need to speak to them or people that know them.
