Evidence it can work/FACT/citations: A teen from Kentucky University said that “Yes, lowering that drinking age would help because it wouldn’t be seen as the forbidden fruit, and it would be less tempting” 3. Drawbacks (cons/negatives): Lowering the drinking age will make alcohol less of a taboo, take away the thrill that many young people get from breaking the law, and make alcohol consumption a more normalized activity done in moderation. B. Possible Solution #2 - Lowering the drinking age in general would be more of a success than the 21-age law. 1.
In matter of fact, many teenagers in the United States weather or without their family consent they consume a lot of alcohol. In most part of the world there is no age limit for consumption or drinking of alcohol. There are three reasons why the alcoholic drinking age should be changed to age 18; to build a great confidence and responsibility to teenagers, to avoid bad relationship teenagers with their parents, and to save teenagers lives that perish by over-limit alcohol consumption. The first reason why should be change the alcohol drinking age to 18; is in order to build a great confidence and responsibility. Changing drinking alcohol age limit from 21 to 18 would definitely to make a positive difference inside of the household.
If the age is lowered, young adults won't binge as often making it safer and not something that's done to be “cool”. Learning how to drink at a younger age allows responsibilities to be taught before kids are sent to college. Lowering the high drinking age in the United States will reduce the irresponsible drinking habits amongst the youth in America.
However, the author believes that the actual alcohol isn't the problem but instead the problem is the law of 21 being the legal age for drinking. Seaman thinks that because the underage kids are prohibited to drink legally they are more tempted to do it but if the drinking limit were to be lowered to 18 then yes at first they would drink a lot but eventually they would get bored of it and they'd settle down to get their other priorities straight. Hence, Barrett Seaman hopes that pre gamers are allowed to come out so they can begin to learn to have control over alcohol like any adult. I really liked this essay, it’s something that I’ve had experience with, not so much as the underage drinking, but pre gaming before going out was something that I
European countries have a lower legal drinking and appear to have lesser alcohol related problems. Trying to enforce the drinking age of 21 is ineffective and pricey. Even though the law says one has to be 21, teen drinking is a major problem and there will never be a way to stop it. It would be more effective to spend money on educating the youth about how to drink responsibly rather than attempt to enforce the drinking age of 21 and continuously waste money and effort.” For 21 years, the legal drinking age has been set at 21 years. This has been an issue topic for quite some time now, and more states are considering revising the law.
This sends a conflicting message to the young person, that drinking is permissible at an earlier age than 21. Scientists conclude that early drinking by adolescents increases the lifetime likelihood of alcohol dependence, and that overall drinking levels in a society are directly linked to drinking problems (NIAA p. 2). The peers of an individual can also have a strong influence upon drinking habits. A person is likely to behave according to their friends’ standards in order fit in and be accepted. If peers encourage others to drink alcohol underage, often teens will drink to feel more accepted by their peers.
Secondly, If US could change the drinking age to 18, less people will abuse alcohol. It doesn’t have sense wait to have Twenty years old the age that you're considered an adult under the law, and have the same right to drink alcohol at 18, If the age were lowered that would help promote a culture of responsible alcohol use. 18-year olds person would often go to bars rather than house parties, and wouldn't feel like they had to hide what they were doing. In turn, this would lead to less fatality from alcohol abuse. Also, lowering the drinking age would be a good thing not only for the economy, but also to prevent so many young people from breaking the law so much.
Lowering the drinking age, I feel would be the best solution to solving the underground drinking problem, it would allow for drinking to be more “open.” Having the drinking age at 21 allows for there to me more difficulty in keeping track of the kids who use it because they do it secretly and tend to abuse it more. If the drinking age was lowered across the world, I think there would less binge drinking amongst the teens and would allow for the elders to have more control over the consumption of alcohol. Drinking at any age under 18 should not be allowed but once you turn 18 you should be allowed to drink legally. When one turns 18 they assume adult penalties, are allowed to vote, die for their country, and even get married. So why can’t they enjoy a few beers legally?
Youth in these societies rarely embarrass themselves or their families by abusing alcohol. In Portugal and New Zealand there are no minimum drinking age requirements. In Belgium, most of Canada, Italy, and Spain, young people of sixteen years may consume in restaurants when with parents or another adult. Australia and South Africa have an 18-year minimum. Researchers have pointed out that minimum drinking age laws in the U.S. are a post-Prohibition phenomenon.
Gina Curiale April 27th, 2011 Professor Byrd English 088 Should the Drinking Age be changed to 21? Ever since the drinking age was legally changed to 21 in 1984, there have been people debating against it. Some people believe it should be lower, citing European nations that have a much lower or non-existent drinking age. Others believe the legal age should actually be higher, noting that the brain doesn’t fully develop until after 21, and people still need more time to mature and sequentially drink responsibility. However, the drinking age is perfect where it is at 21 for statistical reasons that work well for America.
