Not only does the over-populated traffic cause asthma in itself, but also because of the bad air quality, over 1,400 yearly asthma-related bronchitis episodes are due to the nitrogen dioxide levels in the city. The Long Beach Port is the second-busiest seaport in the United States, trailing only the Los Angeles Port, which is directly west of the Long Beach Port, and moves more than $100 billion of goods annually. One can expect major repercussions attributed to the dioxide emissions. Although many plans have been formulated into action, none of them seem to be working because of the previous failure of cooperation by both the individual trucking companies and even the Port itself (USC.)
