Ending prohibition on marijuana could save tax dollars and win ‘the war on drug”. (norml, 2013) 1. Enforcing marijuana prohibition costs taxpayers $10 billion annually and results in the arrest of more than 829,000 individuals per year. (norml, 2013) 2. Nearly 25 million Americans have smoked marijuana in the past year, and more than 14 million do so regularly despite harsh laws against its use.
Palmer goes on to writes “The cotton plant needs about 50 percent more water per season than hemp, which can grow with little irrigation…cotton uses more than four times as much water as hemp” (Palmer). Along with what Brian Palmer wrote, Kristoffer James right in his article “Why to Choose Hemp Over Cotton” writes “Cotton consumes 25% of the world’s insecticides and 10% of the world’s pesticides… Most hemp is grown without pesticides/insecticides” (James). Kristoffer James goes on to write “It takes about 1,400 gallons of water to produce just one pound of cotton… Hemp requires only half that” (James). Both Palmer and James show that
There are approximately nice to eleven million illegal immigrants in the U.S today. This is double the number in 1994. “The America-Mexico border is 1,940 miles long.” On average, 10,000 illegal immigrants cross the border every day. This averages out to around three million per year. One third will be caught and most of those same people will try again.
B. There are patches in the ocean that are thick, like plastic soup, that have actually been given names. The largest of these has been dubbed The Great Pacific Garbage Patch and it is about the size of Texas. We throw away about 2.5million plastic bottles an hour. C. if not stopped over time the earth with slowly decay and changes in the environment will take place such as acid rain or water that’s become to toxic to drink plus animals will die from the trap like waste.
| Peter and Mike have 180 stamps altogether. After Mike gave 20 of his stamps to Peter, he had twice as many stamps as Peter. How many more stamps did Mike have than Peter at first? | 7. | If Amy gives 10 of her stamps to Robin, she will have four times as many stamps as Robin.
They have no natural enemies except man and power boats which are responsible for most manatee deaths- (in 1990, 218 manatees or 12 % of the total population were killed by boats), though the red tide (toxins released from the bloom of dinoflagellates) of 1982 and1996 killed over 15% of the population. It is suspected that environmental pollutions create disease vulnerability in marine mammals with manatees being no exception. An example is when 10,000 seals died in 1988 in Denmark and Sweden from viruses related to canine distemper. High concentrations of PCB’s were detected in necropsies of these seals, presumably from the water and fish they ate. Other threats include accidental
“Apparently the mass of the plastic particles is six times more than the mass of the natural plankton in the area.” This large expanse of ocean has become unhealthy for the animals that feed around the Gyre. “The plastic is found at depths of up to 30 meters. It is literally creating a landmass.” Because not all the plastic’s as it breaks down, and releases large amounts of toxic substances into the water of the Pacific Ocean. Not to mention that the Sea birds and other marine animals mistake these sand like plastics as food, and aren’t able to digest the plastics resulting in a large number of deaths of these animals. We all can contribute in helping the slow the growth of “trash Island” so some call it.
Lack bed space, most non-Mexican illegal immigrants apprehended are released and directed to return for a court appearance. However, 75 percent fail to show. Last year, only 30,000 of the 160,000 non-Mexicans caught coming across our Southwest border were sent home. Addressing this problem, the President has signed legislation increasing the number of beds in detention facilities by more than 10 percent over the next year. IV.
Nyles Austin English 101 Persuasive Essay May 3, 2015 Marijuana vs. Alcohol/Tobacco Did you know that “9 out of 10 smokers start before the age of 18, and 99% start smoking by age 26” (Tobacco Facts and Figures, 2015)? More than 20 million Americans have passed away due to smoking since 1964 and that amount doesn’t include just smokers but second hand smokers as well (Tobacco Facts and Figures, 2015). On top of that 1 in 6 Americans binge drink within a month, about 4 times the what? (Alcohol and Public Health, 2014). The harms of drinking and smoking vary in numerous ways.
This kind of brutal treatment of sharks is being tolerated all over the world and with 90% of the large shark population already wiped out, sharks are being depleted faster then they can reproduce. This puts a severe threat on marine ecosystems worldwide. Sharks play a vital role in the ecosystem, they have shaped marine life for 400 million years and are essential to the health of the planet, and ultimately to the survival of mankind. Sharks are known as apex predators, With fewer sharks around the species they prey on, such as cow nose rays have increased in numbers and in turn masses of cow nose rays are wiping out the bay scallops. This then has a large impact on the economy of local communities who rely on these scallops for a steady income.
