There are many who believe that sports are a waste of time. Many people say that sports are just a hobby and that kids should be spending their time doing something worthwhile. What people do not understand however is how much a person can learn and grow through a sport, and how many life lessons a sport can bring to someone. Although these people are right in the sense that it is a hobby, my favorite in fact, they are wrong when they say it is that, and only that. Playing sports has transformed me into the person I am today and through its struggles and hardships I am now a stronger, well rounded person. There are many things that playing baseball has taught me over the years, and easily one of the most important is the way it taught me how to manage my time. Throughout life a person will have many times where they have to do multiple things that have multiple due dates. At any level of school, at almost any job, a person will need to know how to manage their time and make sure that they stay on top of their work. Baseball has taught me how to be a good student in the classroom while also being able to focus on becoming the best player I could be on the field. There are many instances where I myself have a lot of homework to do and many deadlines to meet, while still having practice for 3 hours every day and sometimes a game. After playing sports for so long I no longer feel flustered in these instances and I will always meet my deadlines. Another attribute that I have acquired through playing baseball and other sports that will benefit me until the day I die, is how to be a good teammate. To be a part of a real team is to be a part of a family. Day in and day out you get together with this family and you shed your blood, sweat, and tears with them in hopes of, one day, achieving success.
