Texts that are interesting and haunting have themes such as power and manipulation. However, stories with power, manipulation AND conformity, have strongly affected me and caused me to overthink about how simple it is to brainwash members of a society. This kind of activity (conformity, manipulation and power) is evidently shown in The Wave which was written by Morton Rhue. The Wave took place in Gordon High School. It's about Ben Ross, an intelligent history teacher that decides to perform an experiment on his class called “The Wave”, which at first started out so simple and small, until The Wave became unstoppable and spread around the school in such a short period of time, affecting many people.
They had expected him be as successful on everything Steve’s good at. But unfortunately, Mark sees himself as a distinct person, and he could not handle the stress from the teacher asking him to be like Steve. Eventually, he became a rebellious student wanting to show everyone that he was not Steve. This shows the reader that when one compares a person against another, one can cause a person to do whatever it takes to prove that he/she is a distinct person, including walking up the dark alley. Everyone in the world is unique and everyone likes to be treated like an individual.
Furthermore, by examining the actions taken to improve, the culture and location, and laws of the two schools, one possibly might be able to help improve school scores. Stricken with numerous predicaments, East Side High’s new principal, ‘Crazy Joe,’ takes charge and acts on the situation. The radical man orders that all doors have chains on them, so no one can get in or out. He works with the students, calls for extra help from around the city, and even hires a new security team. Joe Clark confronts several students giving them an ultimatum; to stay in school or commit suicide by various means.
They should be intergrated together, the video said, "Schools are the same, but in reality they are not." The students in Central High, in my opinion had better education. If those nine students really had good grades and attendance, they deserve to be in a well educated school, were they are promised, and introduced to success. The segregationist in my opinion used very powerful rhetoric. They used a very powerful ethos.
The University used the Consequentialism system; Utilitarism, which seeks the greatest good for the greatest number of people. Sandusky appeared to have good standards and great ethical influence at the school and in his community with the youth. This made the University choose to turn a blind eye and did nothing to further their investigation prior to Sandusky arrest. The humanistic system is based on the extremes of human behavior. Sandusky and some of his fellow employees’ behavior displayed extreme bad behaviors disregarding the law, work policy, and social status.
As he says, “it is a high time to face the persecutors who haunt the bright kid with thick glasses from kindergarten to the grave.” The bullying, the teasing, and the harassing for their abilities and their “disgusting taste” must be stopped, as stated in his writing. Using a firm tone toward the issue you can tell he has experienced this, and that connects him deeper with the audience though pathos. Leonid Fridman shows a very negative attitude towards the focus of “Nerds and Geeks.”He supports disagreement through pathos, satire, and a impressive word choice, He over take the mind of the reader with these rhetorical strategies. Through elementary school, middle school, and in high school, everyone needs their nerds and
The classroom of today has been transformed into a variable war zone. Teachers are forced to walk on eggshells at all times or risk being fired because of an enraged parent or possibly a student that felt mistreated because an author used the word “nigger.” Some students get the idea that they are being persecuted because of the material they are being taught. To some, it seems that people seem to look for an excuse to be offended and take action against whoever they feel needs to be punished for reading a book. Teachers are now doing their jobs with both hands tied and children are at a disadvantage because of it. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is written by a master of satire, Mark Twain, who uses his characters to reflect the world’s happenings around him.
Modest Proposal It is with sorrow that one walks through Las Cruces High School and sees the halls crowded with loud, foul-mouthed youngsters, mindlessly wandering to their next class, or just standing and waiting until they have to run across the school in two minutes. Teachers, instead of following their dreams of exposing knowledge, have to exert all of their energy to maintain their classroom. This is just a waste of time for the teachers since the classroom is filled with ignorant hooligans who are uninterested in learning anything and will only become criminals, or worse, become doctors, lawyers, or politicians. Las Cruces High School has merely become a day care center. It is obvious to the staff and honor students of Las Cruces High School that the troublemakers and irritating, spoiled brats are the cause of the corruption in our school.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a very important story for every high schooler to read. Although it does a little more then slightly hint at the racism in that time period, it also teaches readers. It shows racism in such a horrible light, that nobody could revert to such a thing. Our past isn’t always the nicest thing to look upon, but it’s still there. The difference is what we do in the future, and this novel teaches us that everyone is equal and shall be treated as
Wrong! I will tell you why are education system is flawed, why flunking is not a punishment and other options that we could introduce to young struggling students. The American education system is known as one of the best in the world, but just like many great things, flaws are eminent. Year in and year out, students get passed through school prematurely. Many of these kids think they’re on the right track because they pass classes and are moved along with the rest of the class.
