Effective communication methods are constantly changing, and innovative methods to engage key audiences must be used. Messages and strategies are tailored to specific audiences to increase the possibilities that the System of Care approach will be embraced, supported and implemented. Social Marketing Goals DSAMH has developed the following social marketing goals to support and work in harmony with the state SOC XP Strategic Plan. 1) Increase awareness and understanding among key audiences about the System of Care approach and its benefits. 2) Empower youth and families from diverse backgrounds and underserved populations to play a central role in future community planning decisions to ensure strategies are family-driven, youth-guided, and culturally and linguistically competent.
Juveniles are responsible for his or her actions and have an obligation to society whenever he or she commits an offense. The purpose and the importance of the community-based treatment is probation officer tailors a program to the offender while helping him or her accept responsibility for his or her actions. The balance probation has generated interest because of their potential for relieving overcrowded correctional facilities and reducing the pain stigma of incarceration. (Siegel & Welsh, 2005) Restitution can take several forms which are monetary restitution, where the juvenile reimburses the victim or donates money to charity, victim service restitution which is when the juvenile is required to provide some service back to the victim, community service restitution which is requiring the juvenile to assist a community organization with his or her services. The purpose and importance of the community-based treatment is to require juveniles to reimburse a victim for his or her crimes or participating in community programs.
These treatment programs will help get juvenile offenders back on the right track towards a positive lifestyle. There are various types of community-based treatment options for delinquent youths to utilize. These options would include probation, intense supervision, house arrest and electronic monitoring. While on probation a juvenile offender is under standard supervision of a probation officer. The
Gang Intervention Program The Intervention gang program this paper will research is called G.R.E.A.T (Evaluation of the gang resistance and training program). GREAT was design to reduce school violence by reducing gang participations. Other programs like Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership development (BUILD) a community base program out of Chicago. Another program was Neutral zone developed in Washington states. This program was base to give juveniles extra activity in the evening to keep them out of trouble.
Teachers and parents should help bring out the good in the teens coming up. They need to be a positive role model on making wise decisions and handling tough situations. Encouraging teens to follow their dreams can go a long way. It is always good to have a support system. What I have gained overall in doing this project is public speaking skills and public expression.
Yes there are social programs that can help gang involved youth. Community mobilization, that includes citizens, youth, community groups all working towards the same goal. Providing economic, social, and academic support to these children can make a change. Also, program which provide special
As seen in the Nightline clips about gang violence in Chicago, the inner city has been submerged in crime, drug abuse, and a culture of poverty. In order to reduce crime rates and the cycle of urban poverty, I believe that more job training and internship programs should be implemented in and around inner city areas like Chicago. Social structure theory is a view that states that the primary cause of crime is disadvantaged economic class position. The levels of crime and poverty portrayed in the Nightline clips of Chicago positively support this theory. Another view that is discussed in chapter 6 of the textbook is called differential opportunity.
This document was published with the intention of gathering responses from professionals in the field of youth work. The first page of Ethical Conduct in Youth Work is entitled ‘Background’ and briefly discusses how opinions were collected and the general consensus of the feedback. The paper then goes on to outline the purpose of the document and suggests how it should best be used: ‘its aim is primarily to develop ethical awareness and to encourage reflection as the basis for ethical conduct rather than to tell youth workers exactly how to act in particular cases.’ The National Youth Agency (2004). The rest of the document is then split into five sections, the first four sections reflect on the purpose and nature of youth work and also the importance of ethics. Community corrections are a big part of the criminal justice system. Community corrections are a form of punishment that an offender can receive to serve time in the community, instead of serving it in jail. There are many forms of community corrections it does not only involve probation and parole. Other forms include community service and house arrest (Foster, 2006).
