Abstract Communication approaches were examined for their contribution in motivation, teambuilding and group decision-making within new-composed project groups. When the right type of communication is used for these challenging tasks that project leaders have to deal with, significant progress can be seen in project results. Related theories should be taken into account from the first moment a project group is composed. It turned out that motivating, teambuilding and group decision-making is not only the project leader’s responsibility but that every team member has to work for it. Importance of communication within new-composed project groups When new project groups are composed, effective communication is a determining factor for a successful project and should be used right from the start. It is therefore of great importance that all steps for project start-ups, using the right communication skills, are identified. Communication is a key-factor in managing a new composed project group and often not properly executed. Different theories describe how communication can contribute to motivating, decision-making and teambuilding within project groups. All these theories are related to group communication and are examined individually in different studies. However, a clear “total picture” of using these theories when new project groups are composed, has not been created yet. How do these techniques effect the project’s progress and how should they be executed. Previous research has suggested that motivation is an essential part of the project manager's role. When the project team is not truly motivated, there is a more significant chance for the project to fail (Brenner, Dorothy Ann 2007). Lots of decisions need to be made when new project-groups are composed. Group decision making is already examined in lots of studies but not specified to a new-composed
