Why is a Healthy Lifestyle Important in School? College presents a lot of opportunities to new students, especially when it comes to food choices and neglecting exercise. The word “college” to most students means being on their own and making their own choices. Students do not have their parents telling them when to eat and what to eat. Students also do not have to participate in physical education classes like they did in high school. However, it is essential to maintain good eating habits as well as exercise during college. Obtaining a healthy lifestyle in college is important because it helps students maintain a healthy body weight, keep good grades, and it helps students “fit in” better. Eating right and exercising are vital to having a healthy body weight. Instead of eating junk food, like candy bars and cookies, eat fruit instead. This kind of substitution is a great example of how students can make sure they are getting good nutrition. Getting the right nutrition puts students in a better mood and helps them concentrate better. Eating correctly should be accompanied by some type of exercise. Doing both of these things will help students keep a healthy body weight, which will help decrease their risks of getting infections and viruses. If a student has a good body weight, then they will be more eager to participate in many activities that are presented around campus. Students who have a healthy lifestyle will also excel academically. If they are getting the right nutrition and exercise, then they will be able to focus better in classes. Being healthy also helps students sleep properly and get the rest they need. If students are healthy, then their immune system is strong as well, meaning they are less likely to get sick.
