Trans Fat December 12, 2012 Trans Fat One of the ways Americans can avoid health problems caused by trans fat is for the government to heavily regulate trans fat. A couple of years ago consumers weren’t able to determine how much trans-fat was in products. Companies weren’t telling costumers how much of the hydrogenated oil ingredient was in their products. Because consumers weren't aware of this Americans were eating about five to six grams per day, Americans did not even know the damage they were making to their diet and also the health problem that would arise in the future. Governments are actually getting involved in preventing health problems. Another reason why governments should get involved in what these companies are serving is because it’s costing the country money when the government has to pay for citizen’s medicine. Due to the current state of the economy, most countries are trying to help people choose healthy foods so that in the future it will not affect the government money in trying to cover its citizen’s medical bills. So far the government in the United States has banned items that contain high amounts of trans-fat in schools from kindergarten up to the 12th grade (U.S. Department of Health, 2012).Having the government involved in children’s food at a young age is very beneficial because studies show that kids who eat better are more focused on their work (Smith, 2012). Keeping track of what foods are consumed and in what quantities is the first step to eating healthy. When a person overloads his or her plate with a lot of food and eats until the stomach will not take anymore that person is creating dangerous health problems for themselves. In order to avoid this, people should keep track of how many times or servings they have eaten. Also, eating foods that contain low calories and are rich in nutrients can give the person a good waistline to show off. Eating more vegetables and fruits and less junk food are a really good source of vitamins that the body needs in order to maintain a healthy diet (O’Connor, 2008). These fruits are low in calories, which will reduce the person's chance of developing a heart attack. Also eating fruits and vegetables helps make people feel full and avoid high fat foods such as snacks and meats that contain high amounts of trans fat. One way to avoid these snacks or foods that contain high amounts of trans-fat the person should keep vegetable already cut up in small pieces for a quick snack so whenever she gets hungry the fruits or vegetables will be available to grab, which will stop her from grabbing junk food. Whole grains play an important role in keeping the heart healthy. They can help regulate high blood pressure and cut risk of getting a heart
