The nurse should reflect a high degree of professionalism to patients, the public, and other professionals. Teamwork is a major characteristic of professional nursing. Many times nurses will need assistance helping their patients, and people will be more apt to lend a helping hand if you yourself go out of your way to help others. This not only helps your coworkers but in the long run provides faster more efficient care for the patients. Teamwork may be one of the most important professional characteristics in healthcare.

We also, could not do our job without the fantastic input from the many voluntary organisations working within the hospital such as multi faith leaders and support groups. It is important that all of these individuals work closely together to provide an holistic approach to the care the patients need and receive. Enhancing Patient Safety by reducing Medical Errors I chose the topic of “Enhancing patient safety by reducing medical errors” because it is a topic that I am very interested in. No matter what area of nursing I choose to go in, patient safety is always going to be a crucial part of the healthcare system. I know that when I work with the different patients, I am going have to provide a safe quality of care, be aware of the different risk factors that can affect a patient’s safety. I understand it is going to be a challenge to keep patients safe because errors and mistakes happen every day, and they can happen at any time. I feel like my job as a nurse would be to make sure that no errors occur, and that the patient is safe at all times.
Being a CCM we have to be that informal leader to be ready to problem solve and communicate the finding effectively to the parties involved and remain positive because a lot of “big Whigs” are looking at our interaction with the providers and patients for us to make a difference in the lives of the patients and save the hospital money. Valuing and nurturing staff is about seeing the bigger picture, it is imperative to empower staff by exploring ideas and encouraging dialogue about patient care. If staff feel that the environment is conducive to learning they will flourish and be pro-active in their learning. I want to see staff exploring different perspectives and encourage dialogue to advocate within the team and environment. Studies have shown that a culture that emphasises teamwork and innovation has a positive impact on quality of clinical care (Berlowitz et al, 2003). The transformational leader facilitates increased opportunity for staff –participation by inviting, listening and valuing the opinion of the team.
The nursing process is beneficial to the patient, the nurse, and the nursing profession. It ensures that a high quality of care is provided to patients and enhances the patient’s participation in all stages of the process. It provides personal and professional growth to nurses and leads to job satisfaction. For the nursing profession, the nursing process contributes to the autonomy of the profession and defines the scope of the nursing practice. The nursing process includes four phases: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care (Habermann and Uys, 2005).
