Most of the time they alienate themselves from the rest of the world. Gang members lack the social skills to make their peer relationships work. 5. Can gangs be controlled without changing the economic opportunity structure of society? I think that probably not.
This case led to the questioning of whether the legal system is effective for the individual and the community and whether it really brought justice to the victims of crime. A large proportion of society feel let down by the legal system, as a mechanism put into place to protect and bring justice has obviously failed in this case. The fact that serious sex offenders who place a black mark on the well being of victims, both physically and mentally being let off in less than 20 years caused a lot of conroversy. Although it may be argued that 55 years was a harsh penalty and didn’t warrant the crime, the victim’s of the crime received a much harsher sentence, a life of trauma and a constant feeling of alarm. Denele Crozier a Women's Health NSW executive officer asked the question many women had asked after the appeal was established ``How many times do women have to be constantly let down and disappointed by the legal
| X POPX COP | (POP) and (COP). Domestic violence is pertaining to the community and the police working together to stop this from happing to people who are too afraid or proud to ask for help. | While police and area residents generally have a good relationship, lately residents have been complaining that officers aren’t doing enough to address the minor offenses that are affecting quality-of-life, as with loud parties, public intoxication, and illegal parking that blocks some residents’ driveways. | XPOPXCOP | (COP) and (POP). The community is not giving up on the police, they are just trying to get the police’s attention and show them that these problems are a concern of their community.
Have you ever looked around and thought every police officer you saw was corrupt. Or just the opposite that every officer you saw was just one of the best. Well I believe that most likely you were thinking every officer was corrupt. I believe this is because the negative actions of some police affect the image of the entire police force more than the positive actions. I believe this first because when something negative is said in an article or news report the author does not sought out the officer who did the negative action they just simply say the name of the police force.
The youth involved in gangs have been introduced to the racially discriminated environment because the hatred of other towns and the people that live there, not only because they are enemies but because of their craving of being superior, being better than another race. By being discriminated people feel sad, mad, or sometimes they might not care at all depending on their educational status. “Welcome back nigger” comments like these don’t bother uneducated gang members because the careless mind, focusing only on anything gang related which is what their life revolves. “In my younger years that wouldn’t have bothered me much. But with my new direction and expanded cautiousness, it struck me hard.” Education is the answer to a better understanding of things and a better
“When crime rate goes up there is a further dip in the public perception of the police resulting in a greater antagonism towards the police on the part of the public “(1985). Peacemaking is the basic duty of the police force; if police is caught doing things that is not ethical in the community eyes the situation in the community will not change. The public perception of the police is the criminal justice system should work on the factors that cause the public to lower their trust in the way police treats their communities. Making better police in the community can result if there is better cooperation from the criminal justice system. The way police handles combating crime and brutality most attempts to redeem police image would involve education for both public and the police on the effectiveness crime control measures.
Juveniles are robbing, stealing and even killing their neighbors behind stupidity. What are some of the reasoning behind this type of activity? Some researchers believe that the structural context of the neighborhoods impact individual participation in violence. (Crutchfield and Martinez, 2010). Living in areas that are disadvantaged causes juveniles to have low self control and bad tempers.
Traditional policing does not focus on prevention but ‘fire fights’ or is reactive in nature, they deal mainly with the results of crime rather than the causes. The focus on major crime tends to ignore the smaller far more prevalent crimes engaged in within a community which impact on far more of the community. In areas with high levels of unemployment, social and material deprivation a community can often feel detached from the decision-making processes with the Gardai. This view is endorsed by O’Mahony (2002) p.427 “In certain especially disadvantaged areas, there are mutually hostile and suspicious attitudes
The United States has an ample youth faction, and because of most of the youth living in poverty they look up to false role models and gangs. They seek a sense of belonging and meaning in their lives. Hagedorn and Malec both emphasize that the youth has this feeling and how identity formation is a major factor in joining a gang. Danny Malec wrote a Review on Latin Gangs and their transformation of gang violence in the United States. Malec believes that gangs are not all bad, that they are not just about committing violent and illegal crimes.
The causes of criminal behavior in juveniles are failure in school, substance abuse, gang membership and gun possession, their environment, and family problems. Failure in school is one of the factors that relate to crimes committed at a young age. Failing school causes one to drop out, and this reduces the risk that one will commit a crime, because they lack the social skills learned in school, such as working with teachers and classmates, learning to turn things in on time and being able to follow instructions, and poor performance can lead to a low self-esteem. This causes them to join a gang to regain their self-esteem and to regain a sense of belonging (Web. May 1995).
