Throughout the life long process of developing a sense of self the there are two factors that shape an individual. Who we are internally and who we present ours self to others and have conformed to social norms through the context of socialization. Within the process of socialisation, social structure and social interaction are both essential ingredients in an individual’s day-to-day life. This is because humans have the need to interact with each other for survival needs and furthermore maintain existence. According to the Macionis and Plummer, socialisation is defined as; “The lifelong social experiences by which individuals develop their human potential and learn patterns of their culture (Cited in Macionis & Plummer, 2012, p. 695).” Socialisation establishes the importance of an individual’s social identity through both aspects of social structure and social interaction.
Intergroup contact is where people from different lifestyles live, work, and study together. Furthermore, since they go through common life experiences, they find it fascinating to find a common ground with each other and learn more about one another. Lastly, equal status contact is contact on an equal basis. Both groups must engage equally in the relationship. Members of the group should have similar backgrounds, qualities, and characteristics.
Television will continue to be used for many reasons. These reasons could be furthering education, educating oneself on the happenings around the world, and giving people new ideas to help themselves. It’s apparent that when television is used in the right manner, people will always profit from it in a number of ways
The minimum wage that welfare reform was expecting people to live off of was in fact not enough to even support the buying of food. In Working poor, working hard Katherine Newman expounds on the fact that welfare benefits are cut off at low levels and unavailable to those that earn minimum wage and work a forty-hour week. Newman also states that only a “combination of the two income streams [welfare and a job] make it possible to manage…life.” (Newman) These two sources only emphasize the already established fact that welfare reform must be reformed
People are struggling to survive everyday because they have no food and shelter. These people may always dig through the trash to find something to eat for the day, not knowing if they will find anything. Families may always live in horrible conditions, having no other choice, because they do not have enough money. It’s extremely hard for them to find well paying jobs in these countries. For most of these people it’s nearly impossible to get out of poverty because they were born and raised in that culture, unless other people who aren’t in poverty help them out.
Ownership - Self-directed support not only supports people to have more choices in their lives, but full ownership of their lives. Ownership implies more than just decision making. It means the individual is the final and total authority on their own life. Opportunity – Many people have limited opportunities to experience many aspects of life. Self directed support expands those opportunities e nabling and encouraging individuals to explore the possibilities that are present within their communities.
Humanistic and Existential Theories Influence Interpersonal Relationships According to The Humanistic and Existent Theory influence on interpersonal relationships, people will try and associate with other people and try to connect in a healthy and productive relationship, but in all they will be alone. “Abraham Maslow believed fulfilling love and belongingness was a primal need and must be filled by friendship, creating a family, having a mate and maintaining associations with others. He proposed fulfillment at this level was essential for other levels of human success” (Feist and Feist). Our social construction will help us claim the knowledge, personality and behavior will be constructed from any social interaction and learning theories will define how the human being can learn from their behavior and personality according to the response from their environment will have some considerations internally. The humanistic theory has the great tendency to encourage the human drive toward an ultimate goal that is predetermined.
My Academic Philosophy I feel that education is in place to help students to fully achieve their goals in life. Students of today are our tomorrow. High school is here to help us set our GPA so that we can apply to a great college. When I entered ninth grade, I thought I knew what I was capable of, but I was wrong. As time went on I realized that I needed so much more.
It is more likely that poor people will always have problems with education and employment. But without a good education you cannot get that job that you want so a lot of people settle for low income jobs because of their
When a topic such as this one has a broad amount of variables, it is impossible to simply link these problems to the wealth of a family and race. In the article, “American Dream Not American Reality”, author Jonathan Turley states, “People from lower income family or different race than white tent to fail on reaching their American Dream and face the reality because they have lack of economic support from the family”. This is the simple statement that shows people from poor family will result in failure. What Turley must understand is that it can be extremely difficult for people from low income family to achieve their American Dream without any education and economic support. They must spend more time to study and work as a full time to pay for their school fees.
