The people who are most affected by poverty are women who work part time as most of their wages will be going on the childcare costs and needs also black and ethnic minority groups find it a struggle when they are looking for work and finally disabled people. When living in poverty people find it hard to cope especially when it removes choice for families and you can’t have what you want, you can only, if lucky, get what you need. Due to not having enough money families with children end up with a limited choice in small, cramped, poor housing which can sometimes end in catching some diseases such as bronchitis because the house is hard to heat. Poverty affects children directly. It may cause them to have a lower achievement in school as their own parents are unable to help with homework’s and also they may end up missing out on school trips as their family are unable to afford it.
In a poor socioeconomic group, students are more likely to drop out of school; this happens since the environment around them does not allow them to achieve an academic goal or have parents who support them. The government should implement more programs to help in the contribution for poor families. With poverty, children can experience stress or depression, hence, not obtaining a career.
Equal Funding, Too Much to Ask For A problem in American society today is the disparity in the quality of education between the social classes of this country. This problem occurs especially in areas of hardship. These poorer neighborhoods suffer from much lower standards in schools than richer areas of the country. Without quality education, many students will feel too much pressure and drop out of school or if they do graduate, will lack the basic skills necessary to exceed in higher education. Public schools in poverty stricken neighborhoods should receive the same funding as public schools in rich neighborhoods because the quality of the neighborhood should not affect whether a school receives better or worse funding.
Because of this and the lack of financial stability, I now work full time in order to pay tuition. If I was not able to get a job due to the economy, I would not be able to attend college, graduate and then have a well-paying job. Because of the cost of education, parents who live in poverty are not able to provide their children with a quality education and when these children grow up and choose not to work and strive for a better education or a better way of living, they will likely remain in poverty. Functionalist theory What purpose does poverty serve from functionalist perspective? Emile Durkheim stated, “The purpose of education is not the same across all societies, but that its purpose in any given society will instead be whatever it needs to be in order to maintain that society.” Even though we do not like
Money also plays an obvious key factor that determines your spatial quality. EFFECTS ON THE PEOPLE: Spatial inequality impacts and affects people in many different ways. Determining on what spectrum you are in, it can be a completely opposing lifestyle from one another. People living in the poor side of the spectrum would find everything a struggle. Their lives would mainly consist of making very little money to support themselves and or families, paying bills and buying necessities for life.
It first starts with the problem of the formation of isolated impoverished areas, racial and ethnic discrimination, and lack of legitimate economic opportunities for the people whom live in those areas. The unfortunate factors that come along living in these impoverished areas start a cycle which is very difficult to break. It is crucial for the people who live here to find peace anywhere in their life. The next part of the cycle takes it to the breakdown of schools and family life. The organization of schools all over the United States can vary from being supportive in a student’s career path to not caring about a student’s life at all.
Also they can’t have fruit and vegetables to eat. Another reason it’s that the people cannot sell food for money this means that they have to stave of hunger then later they will slowly die. Machinery The second change was machinery. Machinery affected the lives of the poor. Machinery took jobs of many people but it also gave jobs.
Many people who are out of work rely on state benefits to survive, and if they have children these benefits often are not enough to keep the family above the poverty line, hence the children suffer by lacking basic essentials such as new school uniforms, schoolbooks, pens, pencils etc, and therefore their education suffers. If these children can’t get a decent education then they
With the harsh conditions of the society, people without jobs cannot afford to survive. No income can cause a reaction to where it is detrimental to how a family is structured. Wealthy families can afford education for their kids, a roof to live under in, and form of transportation to get around in, last but not least the survival of the fittest. The issue that we will have on going is race. Discrimination will always be a factor in our society.
This pessimistic view on the abilities of low socioeconomic income youth continues to influence their lack of academic performance. Children who are raised under harsh financial circumstances are deprived of the psychological and educational resources leaving them ill prepared and more likely to be unsuccessful adults in the future. Economics and race plays a factoring role in the quality of living conditions of many individuals. In the American society many people are struggling to make ends meet within their everyday lives. Many are living from paycheck to paycheck, essentially not always guaranteed the proper wages in order to meet all of their needs.
