Annjeanetta Baker Exploring Sociology Soc 100 Professor York May, 2 2013 Exploring Sociology The article that I picked is called Rapid Urbanization and the Aspiration and challenge of second generation urban rural migrants by Han Jialing a professor at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Beijing, China. The article is research based upon facts and figures of Second Generation Urban Rural migrants and the challenges that they face in school and in the job field. What Han Jialing was researching was how it is hard for second generation migrant workers to get good education and employment because of their social class. What this article is referring to are the children of first generation rural migrant workers who migrated to different cities to find work. The government controls everything dealing with education. They came up with a system to help support the migrant children but it is still mainly about money when it comes down to it. What Han is also referring to in the government that they have hidden cost in the school system which is a burden on migrant workers and their families. Like for migrant schools they get money from the migrant workers and not the help of the government. Education is one of the biggest problems that migrant workers face because they are considered low class. In the textbook this article would go under social status. Just like in America we all have different social class, poor, middle class, and top class (rich or born into money). No matter where you at we as individuals always will be put in to categories because of their social status. It is more likely that poor people will always have problems with education and employment. But without a good education you cannot get that job that you want so a lot of people settle for low income jobs because of their
