Are We All Free Freedom...is a word that many people do not truly understand the meaning of. The word freedom is defined as “the quality or state of being free” (Merriam-Webster). From the very beginning when this country was discovered the immigrants from England sailed the ocean just to come here and be free. They wanted to be able to create their own religions and beliefs. Later on our forefathers created the declaration of independence. As you should know they signed this declaration stating our freedom. This day became known as Independence Day or the fourth of July. Unfortunately, that is the only day we celebrate our freedom. In the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution it states that we have the right to exercise the following freedoms: the freedom of speech, religion, petition, assembly, and press. All throughout the Constitution our freedoms and rights are stated. Freedom is the chance to have a choice. There is a choice of doing what you want to do and believing in what you want to. We are free to listen to whatever type of music we like and watch the movies we enjoy. We can also worship anybody or anything we want in this country, even though some of those things might not be appropriate to do so. Freedom is also a gift that can be given and taken from us in a blink of an eye. Sadly, some people take freedom for granted and do not realize what they have until it is gone. “Immigrants chose to come to the United States for various reasons, such as to live in freedom, to practice their religion freely, to escape poverty or oppression, and to make better lives for themselves and their children. Simply put the desire for a better life somewhere other than the current residence. And this country offers that better life they wish for.” (Arizaga) For foreigners to risk their lives just to come here and experience our freedom should tell you that we are
