“Faiths or Tips for the Successful Young Lady” “Faiths or Tips for the Successful Young Lady” is a short story written by Amanda Davis and it was published in year 2003. The story is divided into 17 parts which each is named with an advice about how to be a successful young lady. It is about Faith, a 16 years old high school girl who has lost 58 pounds. She lives with her mother and her father is dead. She has attempted to commit suicide and later she had a stay in a kind of institution called Berrybrook. Here she was kept on an extended treatment and talked with other teenagers with the same problems. Overweight, weight loss and low self-esteem is the most concerning. Boundless happiness is what we expect that you would feel after a weight loss as huge as Faith’s. In this story Faith tells us how mental painfully the progress can be too. Although Faith has made a considerable transformation physical, she finds it difficult to change her mind. Mentally she is still overweight. During her time as overweight, she lost all her complacence. The many defeats she has been going through has caused so big damage that she does simply not know her own worth. Her earlier dissatisfaction about her self and self-criticism has influenced her self-worth so much that she cannot allow herself complacence anymore. All the time she is reminded by the things she could not do before. For example she mentions an episode were she is walking around with her friend Miranda, then she got winded and lost
