Not surprisingly, Bryant was offered scholarships to almost every major college and university in the country. Not only was he a brilliant basketball player, he was also a good student, scoring an above-average 1,100 on his Scholastic Aptitude Test. Bryant and his parents remained coy about his future, however. They realized that they faced a momentous decision: whether to bypass college completely and go straight into the NBA draft. Vanessa met Kobe Bryant in November 1999.
Even though our team was full of confidence and basketball consciousness, we still practiced a lot, and were well prepared for every game. Our team consisted of nice dribbler, outstanding rebounder, quick attacks player, an excellent 3 point shooter and a great isolation player. On the other hand, we did realize that there are many talented people who are not successful. No matter how smart or gifted you are, you need to work at it. We trained everyday after class for dribbling, passing, shooting, blocking, screening, free throwing.
His family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, when he was only seven years old. He attended Emsley A. Laney High School where he began his high school athletic career by playing basketball, baseball, and football. During his sophomore year, he tried out for the varsity basketball team but he was deemed too short to play at that level at 5 feet 11 inches tall. His hard work then paid off when he averaged a triple double: 29.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 10.1 assists over his final two seasons of high school play.
Coach Parks saw that I was gonna b real tall and he played me at the center position on the court. From there I learned a couple things about the position and a lot about the game. At the end of the year when I was 14 and still thinking about whether I should try out for the freshman school team he came and talked to me and convinced me to do so. Over that summer he worked with me on my conditioning and speed and most importantly my understanding of the game and my part in it. Over that summer I saw myself improve as a player.

Quincy’s father was a retired National Basketball Association (NBA) player. During the early periods of Quincy’s life, his father was on the road the majority of the time playing basketball. His mother was a stay at home mom, making Quincy very close to and protective of her. Quincy looked up to his father in every sense, down to wanting to become an NBA player “just like his dad”. He even wanted to wear his father’s jersey number.

It really concreted the idea that no matter what you just have to keep going, do not stop. I have applied this to my life, I have also tried to instill this thought into the students whose live I touch on a daily basis.
