I was able to gain experience in reflective learning by various activities, such as group presentation and mock interviews that was as part of the module. I was able to reflect on feedbacks given to me by other students. This outlined both my strength and weakness and also equipped me with confidence needed to succeed in the labour market. Entwistle (1998) pointed out that in order to achieve a good grade, Students needs to organise themselves strategically. This will involve time management, reading the right learning materials, putting efforts in studies as well as knowing what teachers expect from you.
In session three, the professor concluded that four assignments were crucial to assessing student learning: in-class participation, an individual midterm, group presentation, and an individual reflection assignment. They also can provide feedback for students on their strengths, allowing them to see for themselves where they need to make improvements. Teachers use rubrics to assess students, they make it much easier, more consistent, and objective. They also help teachers focus better on key concepts. By making a work model (rubric) for students to use students will be able to improve and increase knowledge students will acquire. Teacher can better justify student grades by using a rubric that clearly shows where the student rates according to the rubric.
Student records, attendance, achievement and disciplinary details will be some of the information kept. By assessing need I can gather the information required to enable me to plan and design a suitable learning experience that can be delivered satisfactorily. My responsibilities are many and varied; from ensuring that the course delivers on its aims and outcomes to satisfying the students’ learning needs both from a course material perspective and any further assistance they may need to complete the course. By making good use of the assessment and evaluation parts of the TTC I will be able to ensure that I am meeting their needs and that the course is delivering the content and standard that is expected. Boundaries are ethical and course and student related.
Such would call for pragmatic integration of critical theories of learning and research on motivation, learning, deliberate practice, emotions, cognitive neuroscience and a range of learning environments such as hybrid and online technologies (Hoy, Davis, & Anderman, 2013). Tracey (2010) observes an important aspect that the various views can be approached in terms of continuum. Proper teaching is only possible when the instructors are aware of their students and what they are able to accomplish (Chametzky, 2014). There are instances when one view is likely to be more effective than the other based on the needs and circumstances of the learner. Thus, it is recommended that the instructors takes time to know their audience.
What is Differentiated Instruction? Differentiated instruction is a way to reach students with different learning styles, different abilities to consume information and different ways of communicating what they have learned. The intent of differentiating instruction is to expand each student’s advancement and individual success by meeting each student where they are helping in the learning process. It’s an individualized instructional method. It is used to help students with diverse needs learn using a core curriculum.
The roles and responsibilities of a tutor in the Lifelong Sector include promoting positive behaviour, diversity and inclusion throughout the teaching and learning process (Gravells, 2012). The author concurs with Gravells et al (2012) that, a tutor should also challenge prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping as it occurs. This can be achieved by incorporating activities in learning based around equality and diversity so it helps students in their understanding. Francis and Gould (2013) state that the role of a tutor in the lifelong learning sector is not confined to imparting knowledge and skills, but covers a multiplicity or different tasks. These roles are accompanied by responsibilities and these contribute to the adoption of a professional approach to work in the lifelong learning sector.
Essay topic: Utilising the four dimensions outlined in Pavlovich (2007), discuss the importance of critical thinking in the learning process - specifically in evaluating arguments. In your answer draw on a range of relevant SSK19 unit texts. I agree that critical thinking is important throughout the learning process. The use of critical thinking together with applying the critical thinking process at university is vital as it promotes active learning that engenders students with the desire to seek a deeper exploration of ideas. This in turn will enable students engaged in the learning process to be successful in evaluating the logic in an argument.
How are these strategies implemented in my Teaching Practice School? 4. Are these strategies successful? In investigating the above I hope to discover the benefits plus the ‘what’s’ and the ‘how’s’ of well practised Positive Classroom Management (PCM). Through this study I hope to be able to adapt my learning of PCM into a practical understanding and use it as a tool to create a teaching environment conducive to focused and engaged learning.
