Beauty in Different Forms Beauty, the quality of which a thing or person gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising form sensory expression (as shape, color, sound), a meaningful design or pattern, or something that generates an emotional uncountable response (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/beauty). In every culture there are different things that gives off that intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind. Some of the beauties that I found looked and/or sounded to be the most painful were the Chinese culture of foot binding, Kayan Neck Rings, and African lip discs. On of the earliest forms of unique beauty traits started back in 700 AD in China only to be banned thousands of years later in 1911. The Chinese culture started foot binding in attempts to stop the foot from growing. But the original reason the women would bind there feet was because it showed class and was a symbol of beauty. For the women who were married or of higher class, the culture made them bind their feet in hopes they would stay loyal to their husbands by not trying to escape or run away. This developed into the cultures standards for a woman to find a husband. In order for a woman to do so she must have bound feet and if she did not it would have been impossible for them to marry, no man would have trusted her. The process started very young, shortly after they had the ability to walk, and was cruel and extremely painful. It took almost two years to complete. The women would start by wrapping bandages around there feet as tight as they could make it, preventing their feet grow and causing them to develop differently. Unfortunately, the more poor families couldn’t have their daughters feet bound until they were older so they had to break the bones in their feet to fit into the lotus shoe.
