Dorothy worked as an accountant. Detroit was only a couple of hours away from Pequannock, so Charles often took Derek to Detroit Tigers baseball games. Shortly after Clemente joined the Pirates, he chose No. 21 for his uniform. Twenty-one was the total number of letters in the name–Roberto Clemente Walker. The Pirates retired his number at the start of the 1973 season, and the right field wall at the Pirates' PNC Park is 21 feet high in honor of Clemente.

He was given the nickname the Iron Horse for his toughness and commitment to baseball. He played 2,130 games in a row until he hit age 36 and was unfortunately diagnosed with the crippling disease. The way he spoke about his life-altering experience and what he chose to actually say surprised everyone.
"Well, as genius as he was onstage, he was the greatest friend you could ever imagine: supportive, protective, loving. It's very hard hard to talk about him in the past because he was so present in all of our lives," Crystal added, sharing personal stories of Williams' ante-upping banter with the former's own immigrant relatives in private moments. I have been around baseball for literally as long as I have been alive. I was born in September of 1991 and watched the Twins win there second World Series from the lap of my dad. I have also collected many autographs from former MVP’s and Cy Young award winners before the games. There is nothing else like a postseason playoff game at Busch Stadium. There is an electric feeling in the air as soon as you get out of your car in the parking lot.
