The purpose of this paper will be to inform the reader of how to use critical thinking skills to make better quality decisions. This paper will also define critical thinking and decision making. It will discuss how both critical thinking and decision making relates to each other. Being able to know how to use critical thinking is important. Critical thinking allows you to open up your mind and think clearly and rationally.
The competencies exercise revealed my top strengths to be leading, cooperating, coping with pressure, networking, taking initiative and innovating. I am someone who enjoys leading and developing others to achieve results. I can improve upon my critical thinking skills by knowing my strengths and accepting my weaknesses. This will also help with evaluating arguments in a meaningful way. When one knows their competencies they can step up and utilize their strengths and leverage others when needed.
The question now arises is that why we in general and teachers in particular should reflect on our practice? Firstly, it is required for personal and professional growth. With the help of reflective writings we attempt to enhance our mental capabilities and improve our practice. Also, it helps us to do things right and be able to justify our actions. Reflective writings make us creative and innovative and facilitate us to consider fundamental issues in learning.
It is very important to ensure that all staff members have the necessary skills and have undertaken suitable developmental activities to complete the work they are given. As a manager it is important to look over and carefully calculate the time and cost on a regular basis to make sure it’s cost effective so the organization isn’t losing money. Having regular consultations (meetings, brainstorming sessions, project groups etc.) are also highly expected from a manager as it provides prompt and constructive feedback to the employee. Which will help to suggest improvements that will increase resource efficiency and effectiveness; as employees use resources everyday to get there job done and will know what works and what doesn’t.

Sometimes a task maybe important but not urgent, while other times it can be urgent but not important. A leader is responsible to manage the flow of day to day operations and meet deadlines. Communicating Effectively – Being the main channel of communication between the team and the organisation, Leaders must possess outstanding communication skills in order to exchange information between team members on goal setting, task assignments, work scheduling, problem solving, providing constructive feedback, praise, discussions, addressing conflicts etc. A good leader should lead by asking questions, listening, and facilitating constructive communication to build trust and respect.
