Our Day Out: Mr Briggs Discipline and hard work, the two single most important things in life. You see I was once a young lad too and surprisingly not as long ago as most children would like to think. I used to be top of the class, a child prodigy some would say. However soon my natural talent faded away without the proper determination ... I started fooling around which eventually led to my doom. My dreams as a child were to become a politician but I let my dream go down the drain. Enough about my past, now you can see why I’m so stern in my role as a teacher. I want to do everything I can for these kids so they can achieve their dreams and not be left with a life full of regrets just like me. I believe every child can achieve their dreams no matter what regardless of how smart they are to begin with. You see hard work beats natural talent and I believe every child has the ability to work hard. I don’t aim to be the children’s friends, I aim to be the reason they succeed. I’m not like the other teachers, Mrs Kay doesn’t even believe in her own students, what’s the point of being motherly to them if you don’t even strive to give them the best future possible? Feeding them milk and cookies isn’t going to help them find jobs in the future. They need to realise that the world isn’t all sunshine and games and one day they’re going to need to look after themselves. Personally I believe teachers like her should be left teaching nurseries where her compassionate and motherly side will do some good. It doesn’t matter what they think of me, uptight or strict, I just want the best for them and at the end of the day that’s what
