Michael Jordan led the Bulls three championships from 1991 to 1993 and another three from 1996 to 1998. While Kobe Bryant pushed the Lakers to a similar path from 2000 to 2002. However, while the two are both superb basketball players who have a number of accomplishments on their resume, are also different in several ways. The biggest difference between the two athletes is their individual awards in the NBA. Jordan was named Most Valuable Player in the league for five seasons while Bryant was named to it only once. He is a professional American basketball player who plays shooting guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant enjoyed a successful high school basketball career at Lower Merion High School in Pennsylvania, where he was recognized as the top high school basketball player in the country. He decided to declare his eligibility for the NBA Draft upon graduation, and was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the thirteenth overall pick in the 1996, and was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. As a rookie, Bryant earned himself a reputation as a high-flyer and a fan favorite by winning the 1997 slam dunk contest. Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal led the Lakers to three consecutive NBA championships from 2000-2002, and their loss in the 2004 NBA finals led to O'Neal's departure from the team, in the following the 2003-2004 season. Bryant had to rebuild his image while becoming the cornerstone of the Lakers. He led the NBA in scoring during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 seasons, setting numerous scoring records in the process. In 2006, Bryant scored a career-high gaining eighty-one points against the Toronto Raptors, the second highest points scored in a single game in NBA history; because of this achievement he was given the Most Valuable Player Award.
