Piggy was Ralph to blow the conch and call a meeting but ralph was scared that no one would come and say that he is going to relinquish leadership of the group. This shows that he is a failure as a leader because he has no authority over no one and a leader without any authority is no leader at all. Furthermore he does something that he said was a waste of time he goes hunting and manages to hit a boar and gets excited and wants everyone to know. Ralph is showing us that he is a failure by doing something that he wouldn’t have done in chapter 1-4. Then Ralph gets depressed again and needs piggy to cheer him up with a good idea that might help them get rescued.
He shows responsibility through his willingness to keep everyone together as a team, and work together. He also shows responsibility when he calls meeting to decide on decisions all together. This proves that he is fair and democratic. He shows responsibility when he cares for the younger boys, which nobody really cared to pay attention to. Also when he listens to Piggy who was being ignored by everyone else.
In Lord of the Flies, the boys have an established convention with which Jack, a main character, often runs into conflict obeying. Jack first shows this conflict when he and his choir are in charge of keeping the signal fire running at all times. However Jack feels differently and chooses to take the boys hunting which leads to the fire burning out. Jack shows no remorse and continues to disobey. Identically, Jack refuses to use the rule: those who have the conch may speak.
Ralph always had the group’s best interests in mind. Whether they were having tough times or not, he tried to help people. For example, he always tried to reassure all the little kids that they were safe from the beast. He never stopped thinking about the fire because he knew that it would get them saved and he wanted everyone to be safe. He got a little bit overwhelmed but still always looked ahead to being rescued and was hopeful.
The fire is a symbol of rescued, therefore we can conclude that Ralph’s main priority is to get saved and go home. However, after a hunt, Jack mention’s “We’ll go hunting everyday-” (73). This reveals Jack’s love for hunting and also his main priority on the island. He believes that hunting is fun and beneficial for the people. Additionally, he’s still in the philosophy that it’s a game and they are here to have a fun.
Katelyn Mollahan 11/16/11 Period 1 Mr. Nguyen In every person, there is a certain fire in their bellies, but with that fire also comes fear and uncertainly of how to handle every situation. In the Lord of the Flies, Piggy is the only one who has useful ideas and sees the right way for the boys to act. The conch has a certain kind of power over the boys and their behavior. The fire is the last form of hope on the island and the boys soon give up on it. Golding depicts the story’s symbols of intelligence and hope through Piggy’s glasses, the conch, and the fire.
They try to tell Jack that if they leave the fire will go out, but Jack doesn't give them a chance to speak. Due to his poor decision making he extinguished a chance for the boys to be rescued. Something that set Jack apart from not only Ralph but all the other boys as well, was his transformation to savagery. Without a doubt he was the one who displayed the most cruelty towards animals and people. "'Kill the beast!
The only two who kept by each other’s side throughout the whole novel was Ralph and Piggy. “We musn't let anything happen to Piggy, must we?” (Golding page 106). The other boys didn’t care to stay with who was going to help them get rescued, they only wanted to enjoy themselves and hunt. Piggy and Ralph slowly start to realize what Jack is actually about, they get really frustrated and their plan to get rescued was going downhill. “You're a beast and a swine and a bloody, bloody thief!” (Golding page 163).
The boys split up and it’s just Ralph, Piggy, and SamnEric so Ralph has lost his leadership through the whole pack of kids. In the beginning there was order and somewhat civilization. Order is what kept the boys in line and when Ralph lost leadership and respect with the boys; order was lost and things started to get very disorienting. Piggy brought the conch to a quarrel between two boy s and in the end it was shattered which means all sanity is lost there is no hope. The boys were heading down a destructive path and their morals; what morals they have
Even though he has been selected as chief of the island, his voice was gradually becoming useless. The followers fancied an achiever like Jack, not just a speaker. Ralph's most important objective was to go gome, but the boys were too caught up killing pigs to realize that the fire had been left uncared for. Infuriated that the chances of being rescued vanished, the leader demands an explanation for the lack of responsibility. But at that instant, Ralph realizes his leadership lacks contron as he "...watched them envious and resentful" (Golding, 79).
