Lord of the Flies Essay “We’re on an Island we saw no houses, no smoke, no footprints, no boats, no people. We’re on an uninhabited island with no other people.” (Page 24) The boys are alone they have nothing and two boys step to plate to lead them. The book Lord of the Flies buy William Golding is the story of a group of lost boys and their two leaders, Jack and Ralph. In Lord of the Flies a group of young boys get trapped on an island and their struggle with keeping civilized and staying alive. Jack and Ralph both have strong thoughts on what makes a good leader. Their different thoughts and similar goals create tension and fighting between the boys. The two boy’s values shape and effect how they become two very different leaders. Fair gives you the idea of good, light and angelic. Ralphs values and intentions are normally good. He is always trying to get rescued, taking care of the littluns and trying to make shelter. He is caring and you see that in his leadership skills. While Ralph is out hunting with some of the older boys including Jack he says “We can’t leave the littlunss alone with Piggy all night” (page 104). This shows that he cares about the littluns safety and not just about getting food for himself. Ralph is more focused on getting rescued then creating a life on the island and hunting. One of the most important things to him is fire, so a ship or airplane would see the smoke and come rescue them. Jack and his boys are in charge of the fire and the one time a ship goes by they didn’t take care of the fire and the ship doesn’t see them, when they could have been rescued. That is one of the first time you see Ralph get really mad. He is especially mad because the boys were out hunting instead trying to get rescued.
