Psychological Support Agency Antony Smith CJHS/ 410 December 6, 2014 Patricia Robinson- Instructor Psychological Support Agency A catastrophic event such as a tornado, hurricane, tsunami, or an earthquake could occur at any time. Most of the time, a catastrophic even such as a hurricane or a tornado can be predicted but weather radar detectors, but no one knows the exacts affects that the storm will have or the damage it will cause and for this reason it is important to have a support agency in place to help individuals deal with psychological affects that a catastrophic event may cause. “Response strategies refer primarily to the actions taken to deal with a disaster at the time of the emergency, particularly the actions of emergency services such as fire, ambulance, police and first responders in the…show more content…
A major concern in any catastrophic event is to establish adequate governmental presence to reassure the public and maintain order. Public confidence and a strong law enforcement presence are critical prerequisites to all other tasks; search and rescue, damage control, shelter, appraisal, and recovery. The role that the criminal justice system would play in the agency would be to provide security at multiple locations. We witnessed the looting that took place during the catastrophic Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2006 and we wouldn’t want things to get to that point so this is why we are including the criminal justice system in our plan. We will also have local law enforcement providing security at our triage centers at all locations to prevent individuals from stealing medical supplies and trying to steal medicines such as pain pills or other narcotics. Another very important role that the criminal justice system play in the event of a catastrophic event is evacuation.
