Su Mon Kyi Win MGMT 6000 Karen Leary Feb 1, 2012 In this case of Karen Leary, the most significant problem is the conflict between current practice of the Merrill Lynch towards giving the private office to the financial consultant and Ted Chung’ s request of a private office for being one of the most outstanding producers in Leary’s Branch. Moreover, Leary’s worries regarding Ted Chung’s ego and practices could be observed from the case. After analyzing the Ted Chung’s performance and behaviors, Karen Leary’s management style and Merrill Lynch business culture throughout the case, It is my opinion that Ted Chung’s achievements and capabilities should be recognized and the firm should reward him by giving him the private office. Ted Chung is seen to distance himself from his colleagues, financial consultants and Karen Leary. His lack of cooperation with everyone is one of the concerns that Leary is having with Ted Chung. The case also stated that, He is really sensitive to participate in other role that he feels is a lower rank than his. Therefore, it is observed that he doesn’t take the colleagues as team or family. It is also understood from the case that he also didn’t follow exact directions given by Karen. However, despite some of his unenthusiastic attitudes, Ted Chung’s capabilities and performance has proved that he is really a capable and outstanding financial consultant for the firm. He was able to set up a $6 million dollar account with a Taiwanese business within 4 months and is able to serve him with full satisfaction. He really has innovative ideas too. He comes up with his own unique marketing plan for approaching the Taiwanese Market instead of following the current approach of making cold calls.
