A group can be defined by people who are together but not working together to complete a task. A group of people could be doing the same thing together, but they are observers not the doers. A team is a group of people, random or chosen, who are working together for a common purpose or goal. A team can be a group of people who are working together to accomplish an assigned or general task; 2 Explain why it is important to establish a clear team purpose. It is important to establish a clear team purpose. Encouraging members to question the purpose of the team, how it will operate and what it is expected to achieve serves to foster a deeper understanding of the team’s role, and the role of each team member that comprises it. Providing team members the opportunity to debate the role of the team allows them to shape their purpose and understand in common. Without a clear goal or purpose, the team may not be able to identify which direction is best to take for maximum productivity. 3 What are the implications of role ambiguity within a team framework with regard to: a.Task achievement. b.Team cohesion. c.Personal achievement. a) Tasks will not be fulfilled when team members are unclear as to what is expected of them or unsure of what the are to do. b) Each team member usually specialises in different tasks. The purpose of a team is that each member will bring their own personalities, knowledge and skills to the team. c) The success of an individual is only due to the success of the full team.
