Jennifer English 27 February 2013 The Blue Eye Experiment The Concept of the blue eye experiment is to get the point across that everyone is the same. No one should be treated differently because of his or her race, age, religion etc. By getting treated differently the persons self esteem is getting lower making them perform tasks in which they are more pronate to fail at. In the video “A class divided” the teacher named Jane Elliot told the kids in the class that the blue-eyed kids were better. Blue-eyed kids were smarter, could take 2nds for lunch, could drink out of the fountain and couldn’t be with their brown-eyed friends. As the day went along, two friends who have been friends for a few years got into a fight because they had different colored eyes. One had blue eyes one had green eyes. This all happened during day 1 of the video. The blue-eyed experiment shows how people can be easily influenced with what society says. When someone higher than the person, him/herself tells them something bad about someone they are fast influenced in it. They take action and hurt others feelings. A lot of people are easily influenced in our society. Our society works differently now a days. Society follows what everyone says or does… For example when the goose jackets came out, everyone had to get them to fit in, and when someone got a jacket that looked like a goose, people judged that person because it wasn’t a goose jacket. Many people are afraid to be judged therefore they follow whatever goes around society. Now a days a lot of kids are easy to judge. They do not think before judging as many older kids do. An experiment like this in a grade 3 classroom would be a good idea. Grade 3 is where kids start to understand how others feel and start seeing their actions but do not know the consequences yet.
