Benefits of team working Accountability Every team member is responsible for what they do and accountable for other team members. For example, in a football team, a midfielder must pass the ball to the attacker to achieve the set target (score a goal and win the match). Also, if a goalkeeper receives a red card for a bad challenge someone from the team will be able to take the goalkeeper’s place to defend the goal. These examples illustrate how teams take on responsibility for meeting team goals and every member of the team plays their required roles/positions. Reducing alienation People who work in a team get motivated because they contribute to the team by sharing their ideas with everyone and feel that they are respected by others who listen to them and take their opinions into consideration and discuss them all together. In addition to that, team members can learn from each other, because they are able to see that others sometimes come up with suggestions and approaches that they would not have thought of themselves. Identifying and developing talent Managers and supervisors can identify talent in someone within their team, and then provide development and training opportunities to build on that talent. For example, when managers or supervisors see that someone works very well in a team in comparison to other members of the team, and then they review the worker’s personal file and see that the worker has the qualifications to do a better job, they could provide training to them and let them perform a more qualified job. Generating a diversity of ideas and skills Even the best qualified and skilled individuals can not have all the skills. Some people may be good at analysing the big picture, whereas others may be able to come up with new ideas to improve the situation and others who can plan things ahead.
