What makes a good role model and how do I ensure that I acted as a role model for employees I supervise? A role model is a person whom people look up to and admire. They display certain qualities and behaviors to learn from. Qualities of a good role model in the workplace is respect of others, dedication to their job; shown by their hard work and success, listening to people without judgment, giving credit where credit is due, provides a positive and encouraging work environment, uses realistic and rational thought in decision making and allows others to provide their point of view. To be a good role model in the workplace to employees I manage I can firstly take on the attitude of leading by example; by doing this I will gain respect I require from my employees.
This is really important to any employers as it shows that you have own passion and determination to do the work. Leadership qualities- This is when you undertake a certain task and get others to follow what you have explained. This skill is important in IT industry as it shows the employer that you are willing to be in lead of others and helps to achieve all the developments in the IT industry. There are some qualities that each person should have in order to become a good leader and these include: reliability, good communication skills, commitment, time management and honesty. Punctuality- This is when the employees arrive at the right time to work and are well prepared to take on any task set by their employer.
By giving roles members of a team feel more involved in the team. • Power to make decision, allowing people to make a decision, to handle own part of project they will usually work better, will respect each other. Giving freedom in decision making manager shows that he trust and respect employees. • Mutual trust. Members of team trust each other to do their job, will do it correctly without letting other members down.
This sense of integrity makes your manager/employees and colleagues more trusting of you and your actions. Involve all employees in achieving company goals. Be clear about your company's mission and goals so all employees feel they are a valued part of achieving those objectives. Employees who feel management values them are more likely to offer trust toward their leaders. Encourage and value input from your employees.
Relating to the management role it takes dedication to be a good leader. In being a good leader it takes compassion of others. Motivating, coordinating, and energizing individuals and groups to work together to achieve organizational goals (Baack &Fischer, 2013). A good leader is able to be open minded and is able to be a good listener they appreciate all their employees by understanding their needs. In management being able to take on multiple skills is essential some are staffing, coordinating units, organizing, and controlling.
Many employers now evaluate the applicant’s credit report, although it does the employer no good knowing what companies you have or have not paid it tells them a whole lot about how responsible the person is; which is one of the most essential skills needed to be successful in today’s workforce. In my opinion, the most ideal employee will have the skills of being punctual, honest, responsible, kind, being able to work well with others, and being willing to further their education. They will also have the knowledge of knowing when to use their resources and where to find the information needed, and to not be fearful of the consequences when they make a mistake and being honest enough to verbalize it. The skill of being punctual speaks for itself when working any job it is important that you are clocked in and ready to work when you shift starts. Not only because you have a job of which, is organized based on your scheduled hours, but also for the respect of your co- workers.
A team leader is more than just a point of contact for suggestions or queries. His or her responsibilities cover a wide spectrum, serving a useful function for both higher management and team members alike. Their duties are diverse, ranging from maintaining employee morale to making decisions to help further the business. Communication A good team leader will communicate the company's vision and objectives to the team, making sure that they do so clearly, ensuring that everybody understands their individual roles and responsibilities. It is also a responsibility of the team leader to create an atmosphere of trust and open communication, through improving team spirit.
I think the reason this equation Performance = Motivation x Ability is used mostly in management is because these are factors that can be manipulated by leaders. They can hire the people with the right abilities for the specific job they need and also improve ability with training. There are also several ways, which we have learned in this chapter, that managers can apply to motivate their employees. Some argue, which I agree with, that you can create your own opportunities. This is somewhat true as well.
The ISFJ personality will fit well within the department because he or she fits better in a supervisory position. Because the ISFJ personality is willing to make the necessary sacrifices for the greater cause, he or she is dependable and well suited for a possible management position. One theory that applies to ISFJ personalities are that they are typically loyal employees tend to abide by the established rules and regulations. ISFJ personalities also tend to lean toward giving more than what is asked from him or
Characteristics for Success There are personal characteristics that should be considered essential for a successful career in human services. Warmth, genuineness, and empathy are three personal characteristics that make for a more successful human service worker (Parrott, 2003). A human service worker that is warm is “caring and freeing” (Parrott, 2003). Also a warm human service worker will show concern and interest in their client. A warm human service worker is easy to talk to and creates an environment that is inviting for their clients.
