Grifin M. Price Kendra Gallos English III H 3/21/18 Gun Control Will Not Solve Anything Guns are given a bad reputation because of the terrors that can be committed by people who want to cause harm. Those who are gun control advocates wish to ban certain weapons without basis, ban certain weapon attachments, and restrict the rights of the second amendment. Gun control supporters base their opinion on statistics about gun violence that use a portion of data that is not about gun violence just to boost the value of the number. Supporters of gun control dismiss the saying “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” because they are misinformed about the number of defensive gun uses (DGU) which far outnumbers the…show more content…
“Assault Weapons” are a key focus for gun control. Advocates for gun control state that these types of weapons should not be attainable by civilians. They feel those types of firearms are too dangerous for the common people. No facts are provided as to why these rifles like the AR-15, which has become a hot topic in the gun control community, are more dangerous than any other firearm. Bump stocks are another point of interest for gun control supporters. A bump stock is an attachable stock to a firearm that simulates automatic fire by using the recoil of the gun to aid in successively pulling the trigger to increase fire rate. Gun control supporters are trying to get a ban on these attachments because they do not feel like civilians should have the power to own anything like an automatic weapon “He said he wanted the Department of Justice to ‘propose regulations that ban all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns.’” Another focus is magazine size restriction. Advocates for gun control believe that 30 rounds is high capacity and any firearm should not be allowed to hold more than around 10 rounds. The claims they assert have no factual basis or cause. Most of the claims made by gun control advocates can be proven wrong by statistical information. The statistical information used by gun control supporters to boost numbers were falsified somewhat to begin with. The argument of gun control comes from a false basis, has no real evidence suggesting gun control would solve crime rate issues, and infringes on the 2nd amendment right ,therefore,lies unconstitutional.
