Guns in Canada History GUNS IN CANADA In my research project I go to be discussing the following subjects, the history of gun control in Canada, gun crimes in Canada with guns, ongoing debates on firearm use. Gun Control “Uncontrolled ownership and use of firearms, especially handguns, is a serious threat to the public’s health”. Through the years the history of gun control has changed. The history of gun control dates back as early as the beginnings of Confederation where the weapon of choice was usually a musket. A musket is a muzzle loaded smooth bore long gun, fired from the shoulder.

Gun control is the idea that the sale of guns should be regulated and controlled. Some people believe that no one should have a gun while others believe that everyone should own and know how to use a gun. Both sides have legitimate reasons for thinking the way they do. But which side of the argument is correct? Can we allow ourselves to become completely defenseless against someone trying to hurt or kill us?

Crime cannot be totally eradicated, and tragedies will happen whether the murderer is wielding an AK47, a knife, a baseball bat, or just a simple crock pot. The key to preventing senseless crimes like the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary and Columbine High School, is to get rid of the “gun free zones” and allow armed guards and armed teachers. Let the criminals know that if you come here
Advocates of open carry often refer to their constitutional rights of being law abiding and responsible gun holders. They want to exercise their freedoms and will vehemently reject any attempt to restrict those freedoms. It is their case that law abiding citizens are the first line of defense against violence. In situations such as Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut or the Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, advocates will argue that having their weapons openly visible would have deterred these criminals from committing such heinous acts. They will contend that criminal prefer victims or target who are not armed and that gun control regulations should be aimed towards criminals, not responsible, law abiding citizens.
