Is the internet making us stupid? That’s the great controversy in our society these days. Believe it or not internet is making us more and more lazy by the minute. Not to mention that, it distracts us from what we’re really supposed to be doing, but also it has slowly downgraded our intelligence. By all means, internet has been a blessing, however, in the same way a knife to the way we’re thinking.
The internet has made it hard for me to stay focused when reading things you can't learn quickly. Due to the Internet, my expectation of receiving information is to have it quickly and with little or no effort at all. If the influence of technology is to increase, the human brain will no longer be highly valued. "The human brain is just an outdated computer that needs a faster processor and a bigger hard drive."
There are so many tools to work with and things we are capable of doing. We can virtually talk to anyone anywhere at any time. One plus for the family computer is instead of the being glued to the TV for hours, we are now being productive on the computer. We are doing things that force our minds to keep thinking and not just zoning out. The introduction of computers to our family life helps us come together and spend more quality time together.
In a nutshell, the internet has overshadowed our other intellectual technologies. It has becoming our map and our clock, our printing press and our typewriter, our calculator and our telephone and our TV and radio. Internet is stealing the satisfaction of reading. Now, we skim the pages of our books, newspapers and journals for a general idea of the material, instead of reading for insight. Kids find it harder to use the library because it has become more and more difficult to retain concentration
Most people find reading books easier so don’t some people like me because I prefer researching on the internet to searching for stuff in the library. Some people will support Carr by saying that the internet really makes us dumber but I’m on the opposite side because I defiantly think it makes as smarter especially with this technology that keeps improving as years come. All these things we have today and are able to access to will not be available without the internet because people or researchers wouldn’t have been able to get accurate information about what they were looking
I am one who does think that I really do dependence on computers and know that I’m not the only one that knows that others are or do depend on computers also and know that people needing computers are growing. electronics are bases on our everday life and I think that our world would crumble because of the very things that we depend on to use these computers. We regulate our lives everyday and I think that we use computers in places like hospitals, to work on cars, airplanes, to create movies, cell phone, tablets, notebooks and so on and so forward . Now in this centry we have them everywhere on everything just in a different style of the set ups. I also think that computers are the definition of control over our civilization, that if we were to lose computers then we would not be able to survive our society would now be so crazy and would break down.
The human brain has become slower and totally dependent on technology and the Web. I agree with Carr’s view on our inability to focus on the printed word. Carr stated “For me, as for others, the Net is becoming a universal medium, the conduit for most of the information that flows through my eyes and ears and into my mind” (Carr 962). Visiting libraries and opening an encyclopedia to obtain knowledge on a particular subject has become a thing of the past. Mostly because of our laziness and reliance on the Web to filter through and show us exactly whatever it is we are searching for.
With technology that runs the life’s of millions, and the constant need to obtain anything and everything without a price, Lao-Tzu would hang his head in shock at the life we have grown so quick to know. There are places in the government and in the life of today that Lao-Tzu would think inadequate for living; however, we must look at what in our life meets his guidelines as well. Modern American society is not perfect. The ways of the world have changed since 6th century BC and life has become much more complicated all the while striving to make things simpler. The way technology has driven the last half of a century has changed life astronomically.
Positives with the Internet and Growing Up The youth generation today uses the internet so much in their daily lives it has created an epidemic. The epidemic caused uproar of different ways of learning, communicating, teaching and even shopping or advertising done online. Technologies such as ipad, laptops and smart phones make internet access unbelievably easy. Since it is so easy, “Growing up Online”, a document by Frontline that aired on Januarary 18, 2008, claimed that the internet has caused many issues in the youth’s lives. One problem the internet caused stated in the documentary is, it is very hard for parents and authorities to regulate what kids do on the computer.
Cyber bullying is worse than normal bullying because it occurs on the internet, which is a much larger scale. The internet has become very common in today's society. It has played a major role in the social lives of many children. They are able to shop, communicate, and make good friends just by using the internet. People are also able to distribute information to a lot of people in very little time.
