Why to Become a Teacher

“A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning because the most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do. ~ Brad Henry” Professor Jill and Professor Vellom challenged us to write a paper that answers in my opinion a simple question…why is it that you want to become a teacher? Of course the responses were none but expected. You had some students say working in a classroom setting with children and being able to teach them every day sounds. To be able to make a difference in their lives; to be able to praise them when they do something good, and to teach them when they do something wrong; to be able to show them things and know that they learned something when they walk out of their classroom. My reason, however, goes much further than that. I want to be a teacher because of one simple name, Jeremy. As human beings, we all have the capability of experiencing emotions and feelings. People can experience happiness, sadness, joy, sorrow, pain, excitement, and many other emotions. For example, how would one expect a child to feel if their parental figure had to drop them off at school and they know that they will not be seeing that same parent until they get home or until they got picked up a few hours later? Now picture that same child having separation anxiety. Although many people are unaware of separation anxiety, Jeremy is a young boy that suffers from separation anxiety. And because of me participating in the LEAD program and being there to council Jeremy, his life or my life will never be the same. This is Jeremy’s story. When I was a junior in high school I participated in a class called the LEAD program. LEAD stands for Leadership Education And Development. Little did I know that at this time Jeremy would be the one leading me and helping me develop. During my
