In the book What Great Teachers Do Differently, Todd Whitaker chronicles things that great teachers do. By adopting many of the practices in the book, a new teacher can be well on their way to becoming a great teacher. High expectations, creating a climate of caring, decision making, and learning to ignore things are just a few of the things that great teachers do. Great teachers have high expectations not just for their students, but also for themselves. The expectations a teacher places on his or herself are directly related to those placed on their students.
That is when I realized that he wasn’t necessarily a “bad” student he was just a young child who needed motivation and someone who would just care. That is the meaning that I found within Dr. Michaels statement. How does a classroom teacher garner respect? There are many methods that a teacher can use in order to gain their students respect. For example, the most effective method would be, to respect the students and their feelings before they can respect you.
Then to finish my degree and become a teacher in a preschool setting. That will allow me to go farther in the company I already work for. The next step is actually becoming a teacher and having that classroom that I have always dreamed about. I might incorporate evening getting my bachelor’s degree in early childhood education to someday become part of the management
Cognitive coaching is a method which motivates, retains and supports teachers at each stage of development. I spoke with a former teacher and share that on several separate occasions new teachers voiced their concern of not feeling motivated or supported by the school leadership. The mentor filled this void. New teachers felt they had someone to confide in regarding their struggles and trusted the mentor would listen and assist them in growing as a teacher. The veteran teachers where in pleasantly surprised when they recognized there was a possible new way to introduce content beyond his or her normal delivery.
Wayson also spoke about teacher student relations and how to open your classroom for more effective learning. He talked about not embarrassing a student, but in turn seeking alternate ways of getting your message across. This is something that we have touched on throughout the course, but something I feel to be very important. I think its imperative that as teachers we think about what our actions have the power to do. At the elementary level, we are shaping how students feel about themselves which can affect them the rest of their lives.
There are so many times in my life I wish I could go back to my early education years and pay closer attention to what I was being taught. I am extremely excited to be a new teacher during the same time the Common Core is being implemented. I look forward to helping my students meet their goals and seeing them prosper in reading and writing. I want to be that teacher that the student remembers when they are grown up and that teacher who makes a difference in a students life.
The pre-service educator thinks if someone who encourages learning along with required truths is known as an ideal educator. Additionally, there are more than a few facets needed of a teacher like imagination, inspiration, and eagerness; one needs these facets to survive as an educator. Indeed, as a continuing occupation this has been a high request for every person in the education line of work. On the other hand, recognizing that the students are the future, they are worth the facets of education. By being familiar with the philosophies of education has helped the pre-service identify with and the ones that correlates with the per-service principles are behaviorism, essentialism, and progressivism.
Apart from the many other common reasons for becoming a teacher (“I feel a calling to teaching”; “it’s a chance to positively impact the community” and “children need good/better role models”), ultimately, I believe that teaching is one of the most rewarding professions, and that it will lead to a brighter future for myself, and my family. I’m certain people would perceive pedagogy as a career that would continually put someone through a tremendous amount of stress, and although this could be true, it is why people should be praised for deciding to pursue this profession. Teachers are responsible for shaping children, building their character, and helping them work towards their aspirations. In essence, teachers are the people who create the future. There is a current urgency for new teachers, and with these fresh and youthful minds being prepared to enter into the field we can expect a big change in the methods and techniques as well as new ideas being brought into the world of
I began to love me and know that I am wonderful being who I am and most of all being real with myself. My experience has taught me that becoming an effective counselor; you will make some decisions that are good and not so good all in the desire to help others. At this stage of my career and with the help of my educational journey I have learned and still learning to first nurture myself and use techniques along with tools to met the participants where he or she is at. Most of all it is essential to institute a cooperative relationship and to create and sustain consistent but flexible
Obtain my degree would allow me to achieve my goals in life. My degree is a stepping stone in my life it would allow me to become a teacher within the school district and not only preschool. It also shows my job that I’m serious about it; it allows me to receive pay raises and promotions within the company but we all know that without an education that goal is farfetched. I have learned to not look at returning
