Anessa Blanco-Paiz Mr. Thiesman Sophomore English- Per# 6 28 November 2010 There's No Rest For The Wicked One man rules Rome, and eight people do not agree with how he is running things, so he deserves to die, right? Wrong. In the play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, that is exactly what happens. Poor Caesar is portrayed as a bad guy, a monster, when in all reality, he is just a good, kindhearted fellow, as is any other man in Rome. Caesar does not deserve what he is given, and that is death. The reasons for why Caesar did not deserve to die, are because Caesar is giving, kind, and selfless, are these traits that are liable to get him killed, Definitely not. First off, Caesar is a giving man for several reasons. He cares deeply about all of the people of Rome, and he has nothing but their best interests at heart, and that is quite evident. The people that are conspiring against him argue that he was selfish, but that is just blasphemous, he cared about the people before himself, any day. He even included everyone of the townspeople in his will. "To every Roman citizen he gives, to every man he gives 75 drachmas" (3.2.243-44), Says Antony when reading Casers will to the plebeians. He did not ever boast, or act vain in any way. A man that has a high social standing like Julius Caesar, are bound to be the object of ridicule. That is the one and only reason he was assassinated. Caesar spoke of himself in a harmless way, still, putting the people of Rome before himself. "I rather tell thee what is to be feared then what I fear, for always I am Caesar" (1.2.-), he cared about everyone else before himself, how noble.
