As a reward for doing so well in school Junior for his eighteenth birthday got to go pick out any car he wanted, from Hollywood Cadillac Company, Junior picked out a blue 1921 type 59. After only having the car for a few days Junior had to get his oil and tires replaced on his new car, from driving it an extremely long ways joy riding. In October of that year we sent Junior off to college at Stanford University where he would study to become a doctor. Cause and Effects I chose to attend Penn State University over the other colleges that I applied to because Penn State is a well known school. Penn State is known for their academics all over the United States and even in other parts of the world. Even when I was telling my friends that live in California that I had been accepted to Penn State they knew exactly what school I was talking about. Penn State also has emotional ties to my family. My grandfather always loved Penn State football, and would always talk about Penn State University to me when I was younger.

Bianca Moran December 3, 2012 English 114 Professor Schwartz Patriotism Redefined For this extensive but yet very precise research paper, I decided to read the book Born on the Fourth of July by Ron Kovic. I chose this book because I consider myself to be pretty patriotic; I myself wanted to join the forces right out of high school. Every time I see an American Flag or hear the National Anthem, I can’t help but feel proud to be an American. Every time I see an advertisement of any Branch of the forces I envision myself in that uniform serving my country. However, unlike Ron Kovic I was able to realize and see the reality behind what those advertisements really show, before signing up and selling myself to my country, and decided to
As in most immigrant homes the importance of education and personal achievement is stressed extremely, and the Powell home was not an exception. Upon graduating from high school in 1954, he entered the City College of New York to study geology and it was there, by his own account, that he found his true calling when he joined the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). He excelled within the program; he joined the Pershing Rifles, the ROTC fraternal organization and drill team which was begun by General John Pershing. Later in his college career he became commander of his unit's precision drill team. In 1958 he graduated at the top of his ROTC class, with the rank of cadet colonel, which is the highest rank that can be achieved in the cadet corps.
I remember everyone looking at me as my mother asked me, “You’d be able to make it in the marines, wouldn’t you”? I was nine years old at that time. I grew in a military family and in my junior year of highschool i went to a military school. Eight months later, I was accepted as an Army cadet in Georgia Military College (GMC). I did well in track and field in high school so i tried out for the Cross Country team for GMC.
The first one that I went through was when I realized that others went through and are going through the same thing I am. The most important phase that I have experienced was formulating a plan of action. My plan of action was going back to school to get my degree in early childhood education. Which I am doing now. Then to finish my degree and become a teacher in a preschool setting.
His family was the most significant one. He came from a family of military leaders that influenced him to get the most out of what he could and seek a career in the military. His mother was a big influence in his life. She always kept a close eye on him in the earlier stages of his life. She cared about him and believed of what he was capable to do in his life so much that even followed him to West Point when he was a cadet, and lived there so she could be close to him.
