Pro-life is the opposing argument to pro-choice, and that abortions should be made illegal like in Northern Ireland unless the mother’s life is at serious risk. Many Religions have the traditional view that abortion is a sin. It is argued that if a teenager becomes pregnant and has an abortion they may come to regret this in later life, because at the time they were only a minor. The argument for Pro-life is a choice by people who feel that it is wrong to take a man life, weather that human has been born or not is irrelevant. Abortion is seen as no different to murder.
However, if only the debate over the abortion issue was as simple as the definition provided. Much like every aspect of human life, a statement is not right or wrong, but can be left opens for interpretation. There is no black and white in life, only gray areas. Some issues provide us more gray areas than others. Abortion is a good example of that.
Approximately 1.3 million unplanned pregnancies end in abortion every year. There are several reasons women choose to have abortions such as fear of having or raising a child, rape, or not having enough money. But whatever the situation, it is the individual woman’s decision. If an abortion is denied, the women would have the child in unsafe living conditions and the child would not get everything he/she needs to live a good life. First Trimester Abortions should not be viewed negatively because a woman's body is her own, circumstances are always different, and a woman has individual rights.
From a religious standpoint they believe that when the fetus arrives it is a person. Most believe when the nervous system is made, because it can feel pain like an abortion. However this stage does not happen until the 6th or 7th month and abortion never occurs after the 24th week. Abortion is necessary because of the potential of existing circumstances that would be a detriment to the mother or fetus. The mother could be physically, mentally, or emotionally unwell and not capable of being pregnant or having a child without endangering her health; the pregnancy could have possibly been the result of a terrible crime, such as rape or incest; the fetus could be unhealthy and be a danger to the mother's health.
She also claims that the antiabortionists are fighting against the rights of women and the ability of free choice. McElroy’s argument for abortion wasn’t convincing and most of the claims presented needed more support. I believe that abortion should be illegal unless in some special cases such as rape and situations where the mother’s health can be affect by the pregnancy. The main issue of abortion is the fetus’ life. It all comes down to when it become a human.
Warren beings her argument by acknowledging that abortion “…usually entails the death of a fetus. ( Social and Personal Ethics: The Moral Status Of Abortion, Marry Anne Warren, Page 109)” Shockingly enough, at least to many individuals, Warren still holds firm that safe abortion is both morally permissible and under no circumstance should be illegal. Warren recognizes that it is almost futile to argue with those who believe that abortion is equivalent to murder unless it is argued that fetuses to not have the same right to life as other human beings. She does this by
Many of the arguments made by the pro-life team take a moral, ethical, or religious standpoint in their persuasion of others. In order for us to gain a more objective look at the debate with real-world pros and cons, the moral, ethical, and/or religious arguments will not be covered. Abortion has been a topic of controversy in America for almost two hundred years. The earliest known instance of conflict occurred in 1821 when Connecticut outlawed the selling of poisons used to induce abortion in women (Abortion ProCon.org). In 1845, New York began the trend of slapping legal consequences for women who have abortions.
Higher the Bar for Abortion Rights Jessica Hawkins Composition Class Instructor Jodie Brown Due September 29th, 2012 The United States of America should higher the bar for Abortion. A woman should not be allowed to kill her unborn baby under just any circumstance. An estimated 115,000 babies are killed every day due to Abortion Rights. (Loxafamosity Ministries, 2012) Though abortion is illegal in most states it’s still being done. As a country we all need to agree that under certain cases abortion should be considered, but other than that it’s homicide.
"Although the foetus is to be specially respected and protected, nonetheless the life of the foetus is not absolutely sacrosanct if it endangers the life of the mother." Church of England - Board of Social Responsibility Report 1984 The Church of England does not morally agree with abortion, but often accepts it may be the only way forward for someone. They do not condemn someone who has an abortion, but would help a woman get through it, come to terms with it, and
Abortion Should Be Illegal As many people know, abortion is a procedure to end pregnancy. In the United States, the majority of women getting an abortion are under the age of 25. Although people believe a fetus is not a human until birth, this is not true. Life begins at conception. This debate will continue for centuries.
