Approximately 1.3 million unplanned pregnancies end in abortion every year. There are several reasons women choose to have abortions such as fear of having or raising a child, rape, or not having enough money. But whatever the situation, it is the individual woman’s decision. If an abortion is denied, the women would have the child in unsafe living conditions and the child would not get everything he/she needs to live a good life. First Trimester Abortions should not be viewed negatively because a woman's body is her own, circumstances are always different, and a woman has individual rights. Abortion is the termination of pregnancy at any stage that does not result in birth. Abortion is typically defined as the termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo before fetal viability. An abortion can occur spontaneously, in which case it is usually called a miscarriage, or it can be purposely induced. The term abortion most commonly refers to the induced abortion of a human rather than non-human pregnancy. Abortions are (most safely) done in the first trimester (before the 12th week of pregnancy). The type of abortion performed depends on how far the pregnancy has progressed. Voluntary abortions should only be done in the first trimester, in that time frame chemicals are used not dangerous surgeries. We all want to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies, but there is no reason to single out abortion among all a woman’s reproductive choices as the one choice which is somehow less valid or acceptable than childbirth, adoption, or other reproductive choices. Abortion is a valid personal decision within the field of health care. Every woman has their own personal reason to have an abortion.
