Introduction It is undeniably noticeable that Canada is becoming increasingly urbanized more than ever before, meaning that large sums of people are relocating to the city. As urban areas continue to populate, the dependence for rural activities is still rather inevitable. Rural activities include resources, such as fishing and mining and rural services, such as education and health care. Rural areas are usually less populated, spread out over larger land masses for farming purposes and are basically isolated around the outskirts of major cities. The one thing that children face with health care is that if they do become ill or even deathly ill they would need the care of a paediatrician. In Canada there are as little as 3.4 percent of paediatricians that are working in rural areas, meaning that children would need a lot of assistance with their families when it comes to traveling to the urban centers and staying overnight to be with their child (Jennissen, 1992). If a child would require alternate health care other than the regular check-ups and needles, the family itself would be put under a lot of stress with coping with the sickness of their child, taking care of other children if need be and deciding amongst the family who stays with the child overnight at the health care facility if it got to that…show more content…
The Society of Rural Physicians of Canada is a voluntary professional organization and has more than 3 000 members that represent rural physicians (SRPC, 2009). This organization was founded in 1992 and its primary focus is to provide leadership for rural physicians and to promote sustainable conditions and equitable health care for rural communities. This society performs of a variety of functions such as developing and advocating health delivery mechanisms, supporting rural doctors and communities in crisis, promoting and delivery continuing rural medical education, encouraging and facilitating research into rural health issues and fostering communication among rural physicians and other groups with an interest in rural health care (SRPC, 2009). As one can see this society has been put in place because all of these issues are occurring and they want to try to make health care more accessible and make it over all better for the people that are living in rural communities. It will help a lot with the shortage of health professionals in these areas because this society is trying to make practising in rural areas as beneficial as possible for all and is trying to promote the desperate need to have rural physicians and nurses throughout Canada. Although it does not really help as far as the traveling goes
