Duty of Care affects our work in that we are expected to deliver care to the service users safely; we should therefore ensure that the basics are covered, such as cleaning our hands prior to work and ensuring that we wear the provided safety and protection equipment like gloves and aprons. Our employer is also to ensure that we undertake all the required training prior to delivering the care support. Understand the roles and responsibilities in the prevention and control of infection: 1.1 Employee's are responsible for numerous things in relation to the control and prevention of infection. It is the employee's responsibility to ensure that they protect themselves, colleagues, patients and visitors from infection by adhering to infection control policies. Employee's should always wear the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) for the duty in which they are undertaking and ensuring proper disposal of this PPE as well as infective material or other clinical waste. Ensuring that they have good hand hygeine techniques is also very important when it comes to the prevention and control of infection.
It influences social care work, because when we are caring for someone we have to be able to recognise that everybody is different and we must not impose our preferences to them. The personal beliefs should be respected and encouraged. Choice We need to be aware that each service user has the right to make choices and also how they can benefit from this. It is important both physically and mentally for a service user to make choices each day. It has an influence on social care work, because we need to make sure that we are communicating well, and listening to the individual's wishes and preferences, and we need to remember not to dothings without discussing it with service user.
Support the health and safety of yourself and individuals The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAWA) forms a major part of my role. As a care worker, I have to ensure that I am aware of and put into practice many of the legislations, organisational policies, and procedures relating to Health & Safety at work. I am aware that I have a responsibility to keep myself, individuals and others for whom I am responsible for, safe and secure within the working environment. Consequently, I must co-operate with my employer in respect of health and safety matters; contribute to a safe environment; and ensure that my actions support health & safety practice at all times. I would assist the residents in personal care, this can include washing, dressing, toilet need and eating. I would also respond to any calls made from the residents to me in an efficient manner. Any incidents or unexplained injuries that may happen I would report to the nurse or manager in charge. I would ensure that the residents would be presentable in their appearance at all times.

Explain what it means to have a duty of care in your own role Having a duty of care in my role means that I have a responsibility, as a Team Leader, to support the staff team and lead a shift as safely and smoothly as possible. Also a duty of care to the people I support in ensuring their needs are met and independence is promoted as much as possible. Ensuring the environment they live in is safe and clean by filling out cleaning rotas and keeping appropriate doors locked for supervised access.
Duties and responsibilities of job role: I am employed as social care support worker. My duties include day to day support of the customer and of their house hold, management of customer’s finances, support with health and medical issues; promote independence and aid in building social skills. I must build a working relationship with the customer and be able to meet their needs and expectations. I must at all times adhere to health and safety laws, meet CQC standards and follow company policies and procedures within my job role. I also have the responsibility to protect individuals from harm this means staff, work colleagues, visitors ect. So my duty of care within my job role means I have a responsibility to deliver the service to the service user.
